Show jdnesday, January 11, 1989 Chronicle - Page Nine Student needs to read Bible with his heart Iditor: would like a chance to respond to the letter by les Smith titled "We must answer to God for sins, man," Jan. 4. is a homosexual, name calling and other means of red are not new to me. In my 23 years it is some-n- g I have learned to deal with. And I am now able to dw the lies and ignorance to roll off me without ich attention. lut I do have one steadfast rule: No one insults me in ' own home. And home is what I consider the U. : campus to be part of. I'm sure that since its writing, people have interpreted and manipulated the Bible to fit their own cause. Any Bible scholar will agree that the book's many meanings are subjective and open to interpretation. And it has been my experience that those who do so fall into two categories: those who choose to find hope and faith and those who scan and bleed its pages for hatred. I, myself, am not a Bible scholar and I'm not able to back myself up with any spiny quotes off the top of my head. But I do know the Bible speaks of kindness and love. And I do know this: My God, who put us here on this earth, is a loving God. He created many creatures and many races of people. I don't believe that he loves one man any more than another. I believe that only God can create man or woman and that any man or woman on this earth is the making of God. Therefore, I , like everyone else, am a child of God. And whatever I am, it is what God made me and what God wants me to be. I find it difficult to believe that someone like James O. Smith is worthy of throwing the first stone when, in the Bible, no one was. Perhaps Smith should stop the Bible memorizing quotes with his head and with his heart. re-re- ad J.VV.
