Painting with watercolors is an instantaneous, therapeutic outlet, O'Connell added. He enjoys the ol watercolors bright pigments, and the only he has over the way the paints bleed across the paper. Painting with watercolors is spontaneous, even adventurous, he said. O'ConneU's paintings are colorful and abstract. He invites those who come to the gallery to make of them what they will. "Some people like abstract art," he said. "It either does something for them something I can't describe or it doesn't." As a master's of fine arts candidate in filmmaking at the U., O'Connell is actively practicing the art of combining ideas with pictures and sound. Earning a degree in film "was something I had to do," O'Connell said. "I had to find out what filmmaking is all about." But occasionally O'Connell feels the need to escape from the rigorous structure of filmmaking.
