The Color Purple marked Steven Spielberg's return to emotionally charged "mature" fare, and it was great news to discover veteran directors John Huston and Akira Kurosawa were still making critically acclaimed masterworks such as Prizzi's Honor and the locally unreleased Ran. The best of 1985 broke through the pallid Hollywood formulas and celebrated the joys of filmmaking. If there was an "actor" whose presence in each motion picture qualified for turkey status, it was Sting. Whenever this rock musician appeared in a film, theater owners could expect plenty of empty seats. The same can be said about several of the following losers.
