Show Softball Tourney Action Continues LDS ITtie LEADER Will The grueling, Atoraefey Pads will be issued the fourth week with contact scheduled to begin the week of August 22. Jacobsen plans a public scrimmage near the end of August to announce his starters prior to the Judge game. The head coach has little in the way of returnees from last year's squad. Brian "Cisco" Christensen will be back at tackle along with Lanny Lewis who played defensive end. Lewis may also get a chance to go both ways at offensive center. Ted Petersen is a returnee who will be groomed for the middle linebacker spot and an offensive guard position. John Hurley, another tack grinding process of producing a football team to show the hometown fans as fall weather begins well before dawns, the weather cools. Bear River High School head football coach Bill will start putting his squad through the paces Jac-obse- n, Monday August 1, five weeks prior to the season opener against Judge Memorial September 2, at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Sandall will be trying to win the quarterback slot with competition from Ned Petersen. Other prospects mentioned by the coach are Mike Giles, who could end up in two or three offensive positions; Kelly Webb, a linebacker and fullback prospect; Bart Bowcutt, split end and defensive back and Mark Walker, split end and defensive back. Lyle Vance is an offensive guard prospect. Secure State Championship South Davis 0 behind the pitching of Blake Sandall. They then came up with a 1 win over Willard with Sorensen picking up his first victory of the tournament. The Tremonton Squad jumped on Provo for four runs in the first inning as Bart Bowcutt lined a single, and Shawn Anderson beat out a throw. Bob Payne sacrificed Bowcutt home after the two baserunners had advanced on a balk. Another run scored on the shortstop's throwing error on a hit by Barry Carter. Kelly Webb then doubled off the left field fence, stole third and scored on an overthrow from the catcher. Provo threatened to do the same thing in their half of the inning as Sorensen had some initial trouble keeping the ball down in the strike 4-- All-Sta- 5-- The local squad posted an 2 win over the Provo on their way to what they hope eventually will be a trip to California and further glory. The Tremonton squad was scheduled to play the winner of Billings, Montana, versus Brigham City Wednesday evening. Their two opponents squared off Tuesday evening. A win Wednesday night would pit them against the top team in the loser's bracket Friday. And a win there would put them up against the Washington state Saturday at Reese Pioneer Park in Brigham City. All-Sta- rs Brent Sorensen survived a shaky first inning start but went on Tuesday to help the Tremonton claim what has been called the state championship among colt league teams. Tourney Play "We hope to have him ready for the first region game," Jacobsen said. "We'll be as big as any line we'll see this year," he said. "But, not as quick." "Hopefully, we'll be able to run over a few people," he added. right. The Tremonton added two more runs in the fifth inning on four walks and a pair of singles. Bob Payne added some icing to the cake in the top of the seventh on a home run ball that cleared the 320 foot mark down the left field line. The plate umpire stopped play long enough to present the ball to Payne. The Tremonton squad added an eighth run a few minutes later when Joel Ramsdell scored on a wild pitch. Sorensen, who collected eight strikeouts, pitched himself out of a couple of jams. He got the last two batters in the fifth inning, on strike outs after a looping single, an error and a walk loaded the bases. all-sta- fast-pitc- Ladies Softball Joel Ramsdell will be eyed for the tailback or swingback spots, depending on how well Jeff Oyler comes back from an ankle injury suffered near the end of school last year He just got out of a cast a couple of weeks ago": Bear River Valley Ladies League Tournament play begins Monday, Aug. 1 and continues through Aug. 3.
