Food Storage Fair Meld Locally 257-551- 3 The Garland Stake Relief Society under the direction of Stake president Mrs. Bonnie Garn held a 'Food Facts Storage Fair' at the East Garland ward building Thursday evening. Harold Lindsay and Jessie Eller from the USU Extension service were the guest speakers. Lindsay showed a film and discussed ways to prevent insects from getting in food storage and what to do if insects did become a problem. Mrs. Eller told of ways to store food. Each ward in the Stake had a booth. Relief Society presidencies and bishoprics, the Stake presidency, High Council and their partners were invited along with several from each ward in the stake. President and Mrs. Gerald Simmons from the Tremonton Stake were special guests. Recipes from wheat were prepared in the homes prior to the meeting and brought along for those attending to sample. Approximately 150 attended and reported it to be very informative. The Scouts Awards Banquet was held in the Fielding ward building Saturday evening under the direction of Scout Master Milton Scott. Wesley Scott was master of ceremonies. Mack Hansen of Tremonton was the guest speaker and told what scouting means to boys in helping them to become good men. Mrs. Kenneth Funk, Stake Cub Scout leader presented a trophy to Jeffrey Scott for having the best poster in the eight year old group in the stake. His poster told 'What Cub Scouting Means To Me.' Jerry Richards presented scout awards to a large group of boys. Mike King was presented with the top award in scouting for the year in Troop 131. Cakes were made and decorated by the cub scouts and their dad's. Jeffrey and Milton Scott received a prize for having the best decorated cake according to the judges. The cakes were auctioned off with the proceeds to go towards the new church building. A large group attended. Jerry and Janet Anderson Leming of Overton, Nevada Mr. and Mrs. MyrI Norr have returned after a pleasant trip into Arizona and Old Mexico. They visited the Temple in St. George and then continued on their way to Las Vegas, Phoenix and enjoyed seeing parts of Old Mexico. On the return trip home, they came through Monument Valley. The Norr's were away for nine days. Mr. and Mrs. Myrl Perry spent the weekend in St. George, visiting with their daughter, Melanie who attends Dixie College. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Lish attended the baptism of their grandson, Todd Lish. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Lish, Centerville. They also attended his confirmation Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Tremonton, Doyle Holdaway, Brigham City and Mrs. James Holdaway attended services in North Fielding Way Call Fryer proudly announce the arrival of their first child, a boy born Feb. 11. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Verl Anderson of Fielding and Mrs. Sally Leming of Las Vegas. Great grandparents are Patriarch and Mrs. Leo Earl of Logan. Mrs. Anderson has been spending the past week in Santa Rosa,, Calif, with her and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas (Sharon) Rytting who had a baby girl born Feb. 1. She has now traveled to Overton to spend a week or ten days with her son-in-la- w and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Leming son-in-la- w and new baby. Spending the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Herman Potter were their and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Roche and children Jennifer, Gina, Dan and Bart of St. George. They came especially to attend the wedding ceremony and reception for Barry's sister, Melanie Roche, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Roche, who became the bride of Martin Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dee Williams of Plymouth in rites performed in a twilight ceremony held in the Penrose-Thatche- r Ward building. A reception followed. Gina Roche was a junior bridesmaid and Jennifer Roche cant, d a basket of scroll thank-yo- u notes. Mr. and Mrs. Wynn Hansen attended funeral services for Wynn's sister, Mrs. Aurilla H. Jensen Hansen held in the Olsen Funeral Home in Brigham City Tuesday. Mrs. Hansen was 91 and died after an extended illness. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Leland Hansen of Tremonton. Scout leader Milton Scott along with Jeffrey Scott, Donald Weaver, Kenneth Hansen, Barry Hess and Gaylen Bywater enjoyed a winter overnight trip to Camp Keisel. son-in-la- w Mr. and Mrs. Leon Grover and son, accompanied by Mrs. John Marshall and daughter, Jennifer of Ogden spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Vernal where they were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hacking. They went especially to attend funeral services for Jerry Chew held in the Vernal Second Ward chapel. Jer Lu-.-- a ry 28, a truck driver was in Rock Springs, Wyo. the previous Saturday and was involved in a minor traffic accident. As he and the driver of the other car stepped out of their vehicles they were approached by a bystander who posed as a policeman and immediately shot Jerry several times in the chest with a .357 magnum gun for no apparent reason. Jerry was the brother of Mr. and Mrs. Grover 's Bert Chew, former resident of Fielding. Burial took place in the Jensen City cemetery with full military honors. The Stage Coach Camp of DUP met at the home of Mrs. Letitia Sorenson in East Garland Thursday afternoon with Captain Mabel Hansen in charge. The lesson on 'Women's Sufferage' was capably given by Mrs. Voylet Grover. A history on d Mrs. Suzanna Talbot, was giyen by her granddaughter, Mrs. Alene Sutherland. Special guests were Mrs. Fern Andreason and Mrs. Dollorus Iverson. Ogden, last Sunday. The W ard was divided and Richard M. Holdaway was sustained as first counselor in the Bishopric of the Fourth Ward in North Ogden Stake. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Haycock enjoyed a trip to Sun Valley last week. They also visited in Wendell, Idaho with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hansen. Mrs. Clothilde Eames, a sister of Mrs. Haycock, was also visited in the hospital where she is recovering from injuries suffered in an automobile accident recent) ly. The Future Progress Guild met at the home of Mrs. Janet Godfrey Thursday evening with Mrs. Josie Winkler and Mrs. MerLynn Teri Kent as Holmgren, a beautician from Tremonton demonstrated flattering hair styles and discussed styles that would be becoming to members of the club. A delicious dinner was enjoyed. The next meeting will be the annual birthday club party and will be held in the Union Building at USU in Logan along with the members's partners on March 12. Friday evening the two couples visited Mr. and Mrs. Mel Anderson in North Logan. The three men were army buddies during World War II. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Leavitt attended funeral services in the Wellsville Ward chapel Friday for Mrs. Belva Jones Hall. Burial was in the Wellsville cemetery.
