The inside story of how the army and navy are burning up Japan's main cities, block by block, may now be revealed at leas '.- in part. The two greatest contributions to the burning of Japan are the 9 and a new, still somewhat mysteriknown as the "goop ous bomb." Just how the "goop bomb" got its name isn't known. However, it's the most terrible fire spreader in the world. Part of its secret is an oily mush developed by petroleum chemists. This makes the contents of the bombs stick in gluelike gobs to anything it hits, making it almost Impossible for Japanese firefighters to scrape it loose. However, what really made the bomb the most terrible In the world was experiments carried out by some of Henry Kaiser's West coast scientists. So they experimented with mixing magnesium dust in the oil of the bomb. This magnesium dust lights up in a searing blaze as soon as it comes in contact with air. Result is the hottest fire ever known. Most important effect of the "goop bomb" is that no known equipment can douse its flames. Water only adds to the blaze; as do any of the other specialized chemicals. All the Japs do now against the "goop bomb" is to try to confine the area in which it burns, not put it out. This is one reason for increasing optimism about an early end of the Jap war. EE x 108 81 when the dis- aster finally was announced. There were obvious reasons for keeping the news quiet while the ship was en route through the Panama canal. But once it passed the canal and was safely tied up in New York, all danger was past, however, the navy still invoked censorship. Sat. June 30th Girls' Wash 17, AMERICA'S NO. Every time he picks up the newspapers, he reads story after story telling how Washington has given some manufacturer permission to produce again. Henderson recalls how he gained the reputation of being "America's No. 1 heel," by cutting down the American civilian consumption to almost zero. "If I could only change all that," moans Henderson. "If the President would only give me- a job for one week just one short week in which I could give the people back some of the things I took away from them. Materials and labor are not now available and they may net several months. be for Why Borrow Money Now if We Must Wrait an Indefinite Length of Time Before the Work Can Be Done? We believe NOW is the right time to get our money ready for this program. Interests rates are the lowest they have ever been. In 1920 this district sold bonds bearing 5 interest. In 1934 Box Elder School District bonds sold down to 4 interest. At the present time this dis trict can issue bonds carrying not to exceed 1.5 interest. During the period after the bands are sold and before the work is done, the money received from the sale of bonds may be invested in Government Securities yielding an interest rate equal to or greater than the rate paid on Box Elder Bonds. How Come that Box Elder Bonds Will Sell for a less Rate of Interest than Government Securities? Investors buy bonds for the net profit they will- - yield. Interest from School Bonds is not taxable. Interest from Government bonds is taxable in the hands of persons, firms or corporations, but not when held by government subdivisions, such as school districts. Investors, there "municipals fore, make more net profit from less income on tax-fre- e than from a greater income on taxable government bonds. In Terras of Taxes, How Much Will the Bonds Cost? i The Board of Education assumes that the assessed valuation in Box Elder County will not be less than $30,000,000.00. It has not been that low in the last 27 years. At the present time the valuation is i?o- -r 933,551.00. The cost of retiring these bonds, including interest atwr the money is used, will be an average of 1.45 mills over a period of years. In other words, an Assessed Valuation of $1,000.00 would pay an average of $1.45 annually to provide proper lighting, comfortable heat and ventilation and adequate buildings for all the children in tne Box Elder County School District. How Does the Cost of Debt Service in Our District Compare With the Debt Service Levies in Other School Districts of Utah In 194 4 the highest levy for school debt, in any Utah district was mills. Three Utah districts did not have any levy. Fourteen c levied 3.00 mills or more for debt service. The average levy for ot 7 di"? tricts was 2.35 mills. . . The levy in Box Elder County School District for debt service is mills for the present indebtedness. If bonds to the extent of $000, otr are now voted and sold, bearing interest at 1.5, the levy for tnem tirement of the present debt and the new bonds will be less than annually. 9f ij ut Gephart Stores Co.
