Show 10 Hilltop Times May 21, 1992 Slippingthe in AFB Officers Club more 01 Action Line Hill joined than a year ago strictly for the purpose of using the base gym. For about six months they checked the club memberships regularly, but now they don't. I haven't had my membership checked since last summer, and now I notice a large number of civilians who are not club members have started going to the gym directly after work and using the equipment again. I'm paying $18 a month to use it and they are paying nothing. If it is going to be open to non-clu- b members, then I'd just as soon not the a month. $18 pay Why aren't they strictly enforcing the policy by checking memberships on a regular basis? . ACTION LINE is your opportunity to make Hill AFB a better place to live, work and play. When you call Ext. 77000, or send on LOGDIS or Office Vision to ID "ACTION," your comments will be recorded and staffed through the agency responsible for action. Please give your supervisor and chain of command the opportunity to. work with you in answering questions and solving problems before calling ACTION LINE. This will help me better serve your interests through ACTION LINE. Maj. Gen. Dole W. Thompson Jr. JrJ You're right, the fitness center staff has been lax in performing strict ID checks and you're correct in insisting IDs be checked to ensure proper eligibility. The situation has been corrected and the fitness center staff is now asking for the ID of any non-uniform- patrons. ed They discovered, as you pointed out, a few ineligible users. Some others, who might have appeared to be ineligible, were also identified, but they are not required to have the AFLC memfor example, swimmers, sponbership card sored guests who pay a guest fee, tennis players checking on or making reservations, joggers logging their running distances, visitors and Nautilus class participants. Thanks for bringing this to my and the fitness center management's attention. Make change is the possibility of getting some machines in Hangar 225? The vending machines do give change but they don't always work. It seems like they could do better business if they would provide a way for us to get some change for the machines. QWhat I'm sorry to say, change machines are not a viable orjtion. The use of such marhinps poses two problems. First, they offer limited returns on investments, require additional change funds, labor to service, etc. Second, they are an additional security problem subject to vandalism, theft and misuse. Change is available in limited quantities for use within restaurant vending machines from either of the two base restaurant canteens during operating hours. Ogden ALC Security police investigated this matter J"i and determined that random vehicle inspections did create a problem on the morning in question. Consequently, they have changed their procedures and will conduct these inspections off the main roadway. "or Lucky number report it to the base restaurant, Ext. Since they moved that equipment from the Hess Center, there is less equipment and more people in the room upstairs and it gets really warm and uncomfortable to work out. If we can't get the equipment back, is there a possibility of getting an exhaust or ceiling fan the Nautilus room? Qls ' A' I The Nautilus equipment you observed in Hangar 1 belongs to the 6514th Test Group. The Nautilus equipment from the Hess Fitness Center has been relocated to the West-sid- e Fitness Annex in Bldg. 1277. Your complaint about the Nautilus room being warm and uncomfortable to work out in is well founded. Contractors are in the process of installing air conditioning, which will be completed May 31. Thank you very much for taking the time to let us know how much you appreciate the service provided to you by Joe Woodward and the people assigned to the motor pool. Woodward has been commended for a job well done and appropriate annotations have been made in his file. We take pride in the services we provide to TDY personnel as well as permanently as- signed personnel here at Hill AFB and are proud of our employees. Total Quality principles are of utmost importance during these times of constant cutbacks and it gives me great pleasure to hear positive feedback from our customers for performance such as Joe's. at the hospital with the car while I was treated. His offer to stop and get sodas on the way back to the hotel wasn't necessary, but it sure did make me feel a lot less isolated, and maybe just a little bit better. Based on the traveling I've done in my civilian job and over 10 years in the I Reserve, know people don't have to be nice to you when you're on the road. I've seen plenty of cases where people don't even care enough to do their job correctly. and individuals who make the motor up pool here at Hill are quite the other end of the spectrum. on clearly I hope you'll find a chance to reinforce to The leadership went for drug testing today for the second time. There were several people there for the second and third time and I feel it's a waste of time and money. If this is a random selection, why are they picking the same people over and over again? If a computer selects the names, why are the names written in pencil? I commander ' would like to give a warm thanks to two employees who work at Hill AFB: Tyrone Aranda and David Pratt. In their after hours they are karate instructors at the youth center. I would like to thank them for the exceptionally warm feelings and trust they show the children as they train them. Along with the karate lessons, they also teach them such things as the importance of getting good grades in school and helping their parents at home. My son has beenoing to Mr. Aranda and Mr. Pratt for oyer two years end his grades I ran-(tZ- Would it be possible to pull the vehicles into the visitors area or around the corner to the east to do the inspection instead of blocking that third lane? The vending machines themselves, many with bill validators, will accept currency during hours when the canteens are not open. If you ex perience problems with these machines, please have a note of commendation and gratitude for the personnel of the Hill AFB motor spent a good deal of time up here without a car. Getting to and from the Salt Lake City airport and around the base on business has never been a problem. In fact, given the pleasant demeanor of the dispatchers and drivers, and the obvious efficiency of the transportation system here at Hill, it has always been a pleasure. This was never more apparent until recently when I suffered debilitating symptoms of the flu while at my contract quarters room downtown. Within Just a few minutes of my call, a base taxi, driven by Joe Woodward, arrived to take me to the base hospital T a Recently security police dom vehicle inspection at the South Gate and I do understand the need for that. The problem was they did it in the outside lane, which blocked that lane to traffic. It caused a traffic jam back out onto the highway which, in turn, created a dangerous sit- jfS uation. Random selection for testing of individuals assigned to TDPs is accomplished by a computer program provided by Headquarters; Air Force Logistics Command. The number of individuals to be tested each month is based on the allocations received from headquarters. The number of allocations received is fed into the computer, which identifies those individuals to be scheduled for testing. Because the system is random, it is not unusual for a person to be identified more than once. You were identified by the computer and tested in November 1990. Your name was again selected by the computer for testing in February 1992. Because you were on leave, your test was deferred. As stated in your March 1992 notice for testing, "Employees whose random tests are deferred will be subject to an unannounced testing within the following 60 days." As you observed, deferrals appear on a handwritten list. Deferrals such as yours occur when an employee is absent for leave, TDY or another reason, on the scheduled testing date. If you have further questions in this matter, you may call Lynn Nance, DPCEE, at Ext. 77251. have definitely Improved and his and have been built up. it's neat to see a couple of individuals who are willing td put a lot of extra time of their own into helping kids at Hill and in the self-estee- m self-confiden- ce community. 1 would just like to tell both those guys, thank you very, very much for the good ob you have done with my son. Thank you for your interest in the youth ... center and taking time to acknowledge David Pratt and Tyrone Aranda, You're right, they do have a genuine desire to teach good values to th eir students. Through their example, Dave and Tyrone have instilled in their students the desire to become the best they can be, not only in karate, but in all aspects of their lives. Your kind and thoughtful comments have been passed on to Dave and Tyrone. have a kudos for the base hospital. Recently I was going from one Reserve unit into another one and they were worried about the weight management program. The hospital was really good to work with me on short notice and did everything for me that I needed done. I just appreciate it and would like to say thanks. It is always nice to hear that the people beI ing served by the' hospital are satisfied and happy with the services provided. The people responsible for the weight management program do their best to accommodate all those who need their services in a timely manner. Thanks again for your comments. They are |
