In unrelated trials, each of the individuals pleaded guilty to the offenses they were charged with. Drug use AB Dominick Assante, 6514th Test Squadron, admitted during his trial March 17 to using marijuana and cocaine on separate occasions during May and June of last year. The who had been in the Air Force about one year when the incidents happened, was sentenced to 12 months' confinement, a bad conduct discharge and fined $500 for 12 months. Assante, who had received a reduction in rank and served in correctional custody prior to the drug use, was arrested by Las Vegas police in June on suspicion of using and possessing cocaine. He admitted in court documents that he used marijuana on several occasions in May. After his arrest by the Las Vegas police, he was returned to military authorities a day later and was asked to undergo a drug test. The results of that test, along with the testimony of a friend, led to his conviction, said Maj. Kevin Probasco, chief of military justice at Hill's legal office. Probasco said the year jail sentence Assante received was a stiff one but was in line with the Air Force's unforgiving policy on drug use. "Assante's conviction for drug use is the fourth drug conviction obtained at Hill since October of last year," Probasco said. Sexual abuse off be selected to determine his punishment. He said the incidents ended when she was between the ages of 9 and 10. The abuse came to light when the daughter, then 10, told her stepmother. The situation was not reported to authorities, but according to court records, Jamison said the abuse stopped then. The family moved to Hill from Japan about one year later and began undergoing counseling sessions. It was during these sessions that Jamison told the counselor of the abuse. The counselor, as required by law, reported the sexual abuse to the Utah Department of Family Services, Probasco said. Jamison is currently serving his sentence at Lowry. Michael A. Poggi, 388th Maintenance Squadron, pleaded guilty to four counts of conduct unbecoming an officer. At his trial, Poggi admitted that he sexually harassed four women subordinates and the wife of one of his subordinates. The harassment involved indecent language, indecent assault and threats. The instances occurred over a period of five years and at three different places in the world. "He used the same pattern each time he got them alone," Probasco said. "His actions were not welcome and there was a clear mission impact because the victims worked for him." The charges against the came after an Treatment Equal Opportunity complaint was filed of one the victims through Social Actions. As a by result of the complaint and subsequent investiga ld tion, criminal charges were filed. "Sexual harassment is a sensitive issue in the military right now," Probasco said. "Our marching orders in the Air Force have been to educate our people about its evils and to aggressively root it out wherever we find it. "Some people don't realize that in the military, sexual harassment can be prosecuted as a criminal offense. Captain Poggi is now sitting in jail for conduct that he probably didn't think was all that serious when he committed it. His was an aggravated case, though, and it certainly merited a jail term," Probasco said. jail sentence, forfePoggi was given a for month six months and a disof itures $1,000 per A dismissal Force. for. an officer missal from the Air is the equivalent of a bad conduct discharge for an enlisted member.
