The Hill AFB Turtle Trotters and the Recreation Services Branch are sponsoring this annual event. e If the distance for the annual around-the-bas- e run is a little longer than you're accustomed, base runners suggest the following training schedule for the six weeks before the race, beginning with the week of April 10.7-mil- d 7-1- 3. Margie Stutz, special events coordinator, has lined up outdoor contests which in April include racquetball open tournaments and non- competitive programs like new games fun run. During May, weekends will be filled with superstar competitions, the annual around-the-bas- e run, softball tournaments, a triathlon and a run for Air Force members only to celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Superstar competitions will be held each Saturday, beginning May 3, and day and a five-mil- e -- 3.1-mi- feature traditional events like running, bicycling and home run hitting. Awards at the end of the month will be based on cumulative scores. The annual around-the-bas- e run, scheduled for May 17, will follow a 10.7-mil- e course around the base perimeter road. Water will be handed out during the run. Food will be available afterwards. le Other events in May include a triathlon a combination swimming, biking and running contest on May 24. All events will be held on base, starting with a swim in the Hess Fitness Center pool. Tentative plans for the remaining months call for 10K runs (6.2 miles), softball and racquetball tournaments and competitive events for women only. Ms. Stutz said most of the events will be open to military and civilian till personnel at Hill AFB in addition to those not affiliated with the base.
