William A. Siegele 2849th Civil Engineering Squadron Personnel from the 2849th Civil Engineering Squadron and the Directorate of Distribution joined forces to set up two R14 air transportable fuel hydrant systems in support of the 388th Tactical Fighter. Wing's recent operational readiness evaluation. Prime Base Engineering Emergency Force personnel and Petroleum Branch personnel set up an R14 hydrant refueling system with a trailer mounted transfer pump and a filter separator to quickly get fuel directly to the aircraft or fuel trucks under simulated combat conditions. The Prime BEEF team, composed of site developers, liquid fuels personnel and heavy equipment operators, sited and constructed earth berm to give spill protection for two 50,000 gallon JP4 fuel bladder tanks. Other CE 60-fo- ot tasks involved placing an impermeable liner, grading and constructing a compacted gravel, access road, and providing a drainage system. Once the berm was complete, petroleum personnel with guidance from fuel system experts from MacDill AFB, Fla., installed the equipment. Berm construction and hydrant system installation were completed well before the ORE to enable 388th personnel sufficient time for hands-o- training. All systems functioned flawlessly during the ORE, enabling the 388th TFW to reach its daily sortie goal of up to 300 per day. The TFW also demonstrated its ability to survive and operate under simulated airfield attacks while providing internal combat support. The 419th TFW has requested this same fuel system package at Decker Field, Wendover, Utah, now through Sept. 10 to support ongoing inspections n Sew' w .v Amn.
