Show 1, HILL TOP TIMES Friday, May 17,1985 awards an d decorations 71 Mlfir By Charles Garcia Base Motor Pool A 1984 station wagon belonging to the base motor pool was judges' choice as overall winner in the first monthly Spruce Log vehicle competition of 1985. Its operator was James Brogan of the base motor pool. was a 1978 compact sedan belonging to the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing, operated by SSgt. Rick L. Melton. The competition was held May 7, after CoL John W. Wolfe, Hill AFB commander, drew random registration numbers of 10 vehicles belonging to nine different base organizations. The numbers were in two categories, 1978-197- 9 sedans and 1984 station When operators were notified wagons. that their vehicles were going to be in competition, they had approximately three hours to prepare them for judging. Runner-u- p weigomi woinis As operator of the winning vehicle, Mr. Brogan received a Spruce Log certificate, a special license plate for display on the vehicle, a certificate to use various base recreation activities free of charge for one month and a free dinner for two at the NCO Club. Recreation activities are within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Branch and include bowling, swiniming, use of the gymnasium and other activities. Sergeant Melton, operator of the runner-u- p vehicle, also received a Spruce Log certificate and a certificate to use MWR facilities free of charge for one month. Purpose of the monthly Spruce Log vehicle competition is to recognize those vehicles assigned to base organizations, along with their operators and supervisors, as being the best maintained and operated. They are judged on cleanliness, mechanical readiness and overall appearance.' The next competition will be held June 4. This 1 Four base employees win Engineer to atte n d St a nf o r d equal opportunity awards Announcement has been made by officials at Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command, Wright-Patterso-in- n AFB, Ohio, that four dividuals from Hill AFB have been selected as command winners of distinguished equal employment opportunity awards. The four Col. Robert Acres; chief, Personnel Division; Capt. Spencer Singleton, Social Actions Office; and Allan Vigil and Janet Fullmer, both from the Directorate of Distributionwill now represent AFLC for further recognition in Air Force level competition. Selected to represent Hill AFB, their names and accomplishments were submitted to AFLC last January to compete in various categories, along with other nominees from each air logistics center. Colonel Acres was selected in the commander action award category; Captain Singleton was selected for his achievements in the black employment program; Mr. Vigil was recognized for his work in the Hispanic employment program and Ms. Fullmer was honored for her affirmative action program. Bettye B. Gillespie, chief of EEO and Affirmative Action Programs here, noted that Hill AFB had made exceptional showings in the Air Force distinguished EEO award competition each year, which only reinforces the fact that this center is among the top achievers in these important programs. Analyst wins yearly award William A. Chugg, computer programmer analyst in the Directorate of Logistics Management, was recently awarded the Ogden Air Logistics Center Programmer'of the Year Award. The annual award is presented by directorate management personnel to the programmer or analyst who displays the best overall performance for knowledge of equipment and programming languages, ability to write and communicate, efforts, degree of supervision required, and working relationship with peers and supervisors. Mr. Chugg used his computer knowledge to redesign most of the self-improvem- depot maintenance workload planning and control system, which supports the Directorate of Maintenance. By using efficient job control language and a new data base design, Mr. Chugg reduced the system's batch processes from 16 per month (each using one hour of computer time) to one batch per month. His knowledge and proficiency in using remote terminals also greatly reduced the development time needed for each new program application. Mr. Chugg resides in Bountiful with his wife, Linda, and their three children, Jim, Jeff and Chris. They have one daughter, Tiffany, who lives in tenants in the civilian community. SSgt. Michael Carriveau from the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing and his wife, Sgt. Rhonna Carriveau from Det. 4, 40th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron, were honored by their landlord, Dean Thompson of Roy. A 6545th Test Group engineer is one of two individuals selected Air to attend the Force-wid- e 1985-8- 6 Stanford Sloan Program, a course at Stanford University nine-mont- h designed for middle management executives. Richard G. Hector, deputy chief of engineering for the 6545th Test Group, has been accepted for admis- - limited to 42 participants and is sponsored and supported financially by the employing organizations. The participants must, in the judgment of their employers, possess superior records of achievement and unusual potential for early entry into senior management. Upon completion of the course, Mr. Hector will be awarded a master of science degree in management. Controller of the Quarter A sergeant in the 1 88 1 st Communications Squadron here has been selected as the Air Traffic Controller of the Quarter for the first quarter of 1 985 for his outstanding support to the flying organizations at the base. Sgt. Gene A. Costello, a native of New Hampton, Iowa, has been assigned here as a controller since September 1982.
