While the process is generally more effective if the employee volunteers to go, civilian employees can be mandatorily referred to Social Actions by their e referrals for driving while in- supervisors. toxicated and off base court referrals are also referred to the Social Actions center. Sometimes in- dividuals may recognize their problem and walk in seeKing assistance. Once the employee comes in, the evaluation phase begins. This consists of a thorough interview by a out-patie- four-wee- le rnihtary personnel. Groups meet for three hours twice a week. Ses- sions include educational lectures, movies and dis- cussion time. Homework is assigned for presentation to the group. The person may choose to use either annual leave, sick leave, or leave without pay for the proeram. Attendance at Alcoholics Anonvmous at least. once a week is also included in the treatment uro gram. The person is also required to stay sober and drug-freIn addition, the person is encouraged to involve family members in the program. A four-hou- r supervisor drug and alcohol class is mandatory for all supervisors to teach them guidelines in identifying people with drug and alcohol problems, what supervisors can and can't do to help individuals, and how to make 30-minu- te referrals to the Social Actions center.
