Show lllf VnVB Friday, April 5, 1985 logistics centers be converted from the D033 system to the SBSS. The conversion plan developed by Headquarters, Air Force Logistics Command gave the Directorate of Distribution at each ALC the responsibility to manage and implement the SBSS conversion. Ogden ALC-wa- s the first to convert to SBSS in April-Ma- y 1981 and will now be the first to convert, a revision to the SBSS conversion plan. In the initial conversion, one lesson learned was not to underestimate the magnitude of the conversion. A conversion team was needed to take responsibility for initiating, coordinating and controlling all conversion actions. The team is comprised of Dan Arnow, project officer; Maj. Lou D 'Avignon, Management Services Division representative; Brent Tryon, Supply Division representative; and Parley Briggs, Materiel Processing Division representative. In developing a conversion implementation plan, major aspects were covered to prepare for the conversion, including start and completion dates for each action item. After the plan was finalized, the team then developed and documented the main concepts. The plan is reviewed weekly to monitor progress and to make sure that required actions are not problems which can occur when a large number of items are moved all at once. The phased transfer will take place in 11 increments, one per week. The following are briefly summarized topics of general interest: At the Base Service Store, customers will not see a big change when the store converts to SBSS. Organization and shop codes will be used in place of function codes, and customer cards containing the new organizationshop codes will be introduced as ' new cards are issued. . The Tool Issue Center will be transferred to SBSS for all customers including maintenance. Maintenance will be fed costing data and will be able to batch their requirements prior to pickup. In training for SBSS, 27 different courses of instruction have been developed for approximately 300 supply personnel. SBSS customer training for base and tenant organization supply personnel will begin this month. So pipeline times for established due-out- s will not be lost, and due-in- s they will remain in the D033 system until receipt of requested property. This means that base and tenant customers will have items on order in both the D033 and SBSS until all res have and maining due-in- s cleared the D033. At the end of six overlooked. will be reviewed months, all due-out- s The SBSS conversion will take place for currency and status. All property in increments to avoid transfer currently on duty from maintenance By Dan Arnow Directorate of Distribution Things in the supply world are about to undergo a significant change, and it all revolves around the acronym SBSS. The Standard Base Supply System conversion will mean a major change in the way base and tenant organizations receive supply support from the Directorate of Distribution. In 1976, a decision by the Secretary of Defense directed that base and tenant supply support at the five I I;' rft 1 - f , . -- i (U.S. Air Force Photo by Keith Adams) Maj. Robert J. Haber Jr., USAFR, inputs data on an SBSS terminal using a program he devised to assist in data development for the new supply account structure. , due-out- details will remain on the D033 until turned in and shipped out. Concerning storage, SBSS material will be segregated from D033 material. Items with specialized storage requirements will remain in their specialized storage facilities, but will be segregated. In the accounting structure, the SBSS uses different funding codes than D033. Thus, the conversion team has requested the assistance of all base and tenant resource advisors to provide organizationshop code and delivery destination data for their organizations. The actual transfer process will begin in May and is scheduled to run through July. As the conversion is implemented, many personnel working in the Directorate of Distribution will y experience changes in their work. They will have to learn a whole new set of rules, and sometimes even more difficult, will have to forget the old ones. While you may or may not be directly affected by these changes, your organization certainly will be. A great deal of effort is behind implementing the required changes carefully so that customer supply support is not greatly inconvenienced. With the cooperation of everyone, the conversion will take place smoothly and efficiently, with the overall result of improved supply support to base and tenant organizations. day-to-da- LPS FIELD ENGINEERS Saudi Arabia Litton Saudi Arabia Limited is a multinational company involved in the execution of the most exten sive defense contract ever awarded which has created opportunities for Field Engineers. .
