Following training at Nellis AFB, Nev., he was assigned to the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing at McConnell AFB, Kan. Other assignments include Takhli Royal Thai AB, Thailand; Headquarters, U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C.; Udorn Royal Thai AB, Thailand; Moody AFB, Ga., and Langley AFB, Va. In July 1982 he was assigned as the assistant for colonel assignments, Air Force Manpower and Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, Texas. Colonel Ardern is a command pilot with more F-- 4 than 2,400 flying hours in and 5 aircraft. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, and Air Force Commendation Medal. Colonel Ardern is married to the former Joan Murray of Colby, Kan. By SSgt. Terry Walker 388th Tocticol Fighter Wing E. Ardern will assume duties as vice commander, 388th Tactical Fighter Wing, on Monday. He replaces Col. Robert M. Foley who is being assigned to the Pentagon. Colonel Ardern was born in Sheffield, Ala., and graduated from Nether Providence High School in Col. William F-1- Wallingford, Pa. He earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering and his Air Force commission from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., in June 1963. He was awarded a master of science degree in management and system analysis from the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y. , in June 1971. Other schooling completed is the Squadron Officer School at Maxwell AFB, Ala., in December 1967; Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Va., in July, 1974 and Air War College, Maxwell AFB in May 1981. Support activities evaluated were: the 2849th Air Base Group, Military Personnel, Comptroller, Social Actions, Plans and Programs, Operations Division, Logistics Management, Public Affairs, and the Office of History. The 2849th Civil Engineering Squadron, Military Personnel, Comptroller, Social Actions, Public Affairs and Logistics Management exceeded established standards while all other units met them, the Connecticut Street between Box Elder and Cedar Streets, Box Elder Street just south of Delaware and Cedar Street just south of Delaware Street will be closed to all traffic April 5. The 30 Air Force Logistics Command Inspector General inspectors themselves were evaluated as they conducted the inspection by an Over the Shoulder Inspection team from Norton AFB, Calif.
