"The contractor was a day ahead of schedule, but lost that day because of heavy rain last weekend. Now he's on the original schedule." Rain also affected the 16th Tactical Fighter Squadron, deployed to Nellis AFB. "Heavy rain flooded the base and washed a lot of debris onto the taxiways and runway," said Maj. Mark Kunnen, assistant operations officer. "Other than that, we've had no problems. "Our Red Flag training went well," he continued. "We received a lot of good training out of it." Major Kunnen said the squadron has been flying 26 missions a day, and that the 6 Fighting Falcons and the pilots have been holding up well. The 4th, 34th, and 421st squadrons have flown more than 400 sorties from Mountain Home AFB, according to Colonel Downer, project officer for the deployment. "Weather and flying have been good," he added. "We haven't had any problems." The 388th deployed 888 people to , Mountain Home, increasing the base's military population by 11 percent. Mountain Home AFB flies about 30 sorties a day. The 388th planned to fly about 80 sorties daily, increasing the sortie rate almost 300 percent. It took 70 rail cars to move the 388th to Mountain Home AFB with more than two million pounds of vehicles and support equipment on those cars. Equipment wilTbe returned to Hill AFB by rail. Deployed personnel will begin loading the train for the return trip Monday or Tuesday. If the runway repair continues on schedule, the 388th will begin its deployment home Aug. 3. The chances of that happening are good. y (U.S. Air Force Phoio by 1si Lt.
