Reynolds Commander, Ogden ALC QI Water days regulated realize the base has times when they low water pressure which makes it necessary for the SPs to come around and request that we turn off our outside water. However, if we don't water our lawns, then we receive a letter from Housing immediately telling us that our yard needs to be watered. Then when we begin watering again, they come around and tell us to turn it off again. Can anything be done to put an end to this vicious circle we seem to be caught in? A on Summer watering regulations require that residents with even house numbers water even numbered days and those with odd house numbers water on odd numbered days. All housing residents should water between 4 and 7 a.m., or afternoons from 4 to 8 p.m. These regulations are cited in the housing brochure and have been published in the ALC Bulletin. A booster pump for one of the wells supplying water to the base was recently broken. Consequently, security police and housing inspectors have been notifying all areas of the base to conserve water so that a critical water shortage will be avoided. If the housing occupants will comply with the above watering regulations, water shortages should be avoided and the lawns will not die. Wouldn't it be to the government's benefit to provide a training course to all employees on how to answer the phone with a positive, helpful and friendly attitude? Your observation on telephone courtesy and having a positive friendly attitude is excellent one. Maintaining a positive professional image over the telephone is a major concern of the Personnel Directorate. As a direct result of this thrust, a new program was developed in January 1983 called "Secretarial Techniques" which contains many exercises in telephone courtesy. To date 120 employees have taken the course. We will teach it six times a year for 25 participants each, starting this October. Although formal training helps to alleviate the problem, personal training by each individual supervisor to the employees in the organization seems to be the most effective. We agree this is a matter of importance and any suggestion that assists in its accomplishment is accepted. As a direct result of your inquiry, we are incorporating a special segment into our basic management course for supervisors and our Civilian Personnel Management course on this subject. We will attempt to impress our supervisors on the importance of training their employees in proper telephone procedures. Sup 1, para procedures for bringing firearms on base. It states, "No person shall transport a privately owned weapon on Hill AFB except when transferring the firearm to or from authorized storage areas; for example, family housing units, authorized shooting ranges, or the Security Police Armory, Bldg. 1219. Ammunition will be removed from weapons being transported." In addition, AFR 125-3AFLC Sup 1, para 7b, prohibits private firearms and ammunition from being stored in privately owned vehicles at any time. Care must also be exercised when transporting private weapons to a shooting facility. They must not be concealed nor readily accessible to anyone if ammunition is being transported with the weapon. The best method is to transport your weapon unloaded in the trunk of a vehicle. If you bring a weapon on base in the morning for use later on, you must coordinate with the Security Police Armory, Ext. 77916, for storage while you are at work. Recently a friend was charged with possessing a concealed weapon in his automobile. The charges against him were later dropped and his confiscated firearms returned but only after he had incurred legal fees. How is it possible to bring our weapons onto the base legally in order to avoid such an incident from occurring again?
