Hedrick Education Officer Two Hill AFB staff sergeants have been selected for educational scholarships by the Airman Education and Commissioning Program . SSgt. Edward L. Cosnyka, 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, will attend a university of his choice in an electrical engineering program. SSgt. Howard L. Riedl, 1954th Radar Evaluation Squadron, was selected for the civil engineering program and will attend the University of Washington. He completed his pre- - engineering requirements at Weber State College and was in the top 10 percent of his class during the spring quarter, 1983. The AECP is a very competitive program for which only highly qualified applicants are selected to participate. Selectees attend universities of their choice, tuition costs are paid and they remain on active duty, drawing regular salary as a staff sergeant or higher, if they have held that grade. Strange, a computer systems programmer in the Data Automation Branch, Comptroller, retired Dec. 30 after 32 years, nine months' federal service. Starting her career in March 1951 as a GS--2 property and supply clerk, she advanced to a control and audit clerk position in Data Automation Division in March 1959. After a few. months, it became clear that her goal f ' fi. s SSgt. Howard SSgt. Edward L. Cosnyka ge programs end was to become a computer programmer. To attain her objective, she enrollcoled in numerous computer-relate- d lege courses on her own time and expense. After several years of hard, dedicated work to get into the field, she finally reached her goal and was the first woman to attain the position of a GS-1- 2 computer specialist at Hill AFB. During her career, Mrs. Strange received numerous awards, including those for sustained superior and outstanding performance, as well as a F L. An active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, she is currently treasurer of her chapter. She is also a member of the quality step increase. She has also been a nominee for the Ogden Air Logistics Center Programmer of the Year Award and the Federal Woman of the Year Award. She was a member of the Hill AFB Heritage Foundation Artifacts Committee which was formed to collect historical items for display in the Hill AFB Aerospace Park and Museum and has been equally dedicated and involved in community projects. Mrs. Strange also served as chairperson of the Bicentennial Committee and was instrumental in bringing a : Federal Women's Program. She is married to Mervin H. Strange, who retired from Hill AFB in January 1981. They reside in West Valley. Future plans include continued activity in the organizations to which she belongs and traveling and rock hunting with her husband and friends.
