SOUTH get two Every January, one of the issues on most people's minds is taxes. Usually new tax programs go into effect and all W--2 forms are issued. Tax time is here and civilian employees on Hill AFB can expect to receive their yearly tax withholding statements W--2 forms by today or early next week. The forms were mailed from the Civilian Payroll Section, Comptroller, Tuesday. Walt Summers, chief, Civilian Pay, stated that some employees will receive two of the forms. When this happens, they should file both forms. The two forms are for those involved with the Social Security system. Military personnel should receive their forms by : Jan. 31. These are being mailed by the Air Force Finance and Accounting Center, Denver, Colo. call For more information on the civilian W-2the on Mr. Summers, Ext. 77775. For information military forms call Ext.. 77486. In other tax news, Air Force News Service reports financial institutions are sending notices to customers requesting verification of Social Security numbers. Air Force officials warn that treating the notices like junk mail could be costly. As part of the 1983 Tax Compliance Act, the Internal Revenue Service will withhold 20 percent of interest and dividends in 1984 until a correct SSAN is verified, said William R. Stroemer with the Air Force Preventive Law and Legal Aid Group. .'If the notice is ignored," cautioned Mr. Stroemer, "the 20 percent will automatically be withheld. Most people would rather keep it in their pocket than give it to the IRS. "Institutions will send a copy of your Social Security number to you. All you have to do is verify it and send it back," the attorney added. The act is a "tool of the IRS" to help monitor income, interests and dividends, he said. "It is the same law that repealed the 10 percent withholding ; -- s, ? L Mr.. jr Fof-- p'hoto by sSflt M Scarpino)" Col.
