By Lucinda Schuft Public Affairs Office The 2849th Maintenance Squadron celebrated the grand opening of their updated headquarters building Monday with Col. Sam P. Morgan, Jr., Director of Maintenance, performing the ribbon cutting. Bldg. 1622 was built in 1943 as a locker-lunchroo- facility m . for employees in the ammunition test and assembly area. The building is constructed out of structural clay tile set between concrete columns which sup- ported steel trusses and a corrugated asbestos roof. The interior of the building had been altered and upgraded over the last four decades with little coordinated planning and it was decided that the interior would be totally gutted to redo it. 1st Lt. Kerry M. Hunt, Civil Engineering Division, was the project designer on the building. His idea was to- - create a facility which demonstrates the modernness of today's Air Force. ; He put together bright colors, open beam ceilings and glassed offices to create a cheerful work environment. Effective with the opening of the new facility for the 2849th Maintenance Squadron are duty phone numbers 64091 and 76072.
