He called for the Senate to ratify SALT II as soon as possible. "Not because it is a flawless treaty. . . it is not but because it would restrain active Soviet weapons production lines. In addition, it also would allow us to measure in a their tangible way willingness to cooperate." General Ellis said the second course of action calls for the continuing need to upgrade our strategic forces and develop "badly needed" follow-o- n systems. to change of Strategic States, the commander-in-chie- f Air Command told the Order of Daedalians flight at Dover AFB, Del. Gen. Richard H. Ellis said by correcting this strategic imbalance, it would "send a clear signal to the Soviets that this nation intends to remain a strong, effective leader in the international community. We often hear, "They have got to do something." But many of us in leadership positions do not readily accept the "they" is us. We must accept " the responsibility that 'comes witn tne territory as a leader or supervisor. Subordinates will not be more inspired or motivated to the mission and their work than you are, and will likely set no higher standards , than yours. More than 25 percent of the people we've surveyed have indicated they do not know who they work for, what is expected of them, how to do their job or how well they've done when it's finished. This results in low morale, low retention and decreased productivity. Do your people know whom they work for? . Do your people know what you expect them to do? Do they know what to do first (priorities)? Do they know how you will measure their performance? , what is expected of them. Listen. Watch and listen when you're in work areas. Good ideas come from people who do a job every day and know it best. Give feedback. People need to receive Are they willing to come to you for clarification and advice? ' Do you give them feedback on how they are doing (good or bad)? If you answered "yes" to these questions, chances are your people understand their job. They know what is expected of them and as a result have higher morale, career intent and increased productivity. If you answered "no" to any of the questions, then consider the following key balanced feedback a combination of what like and don't like about a supervisors subordinate's work. Every subordinate can benefit by understanding what is done right as well as what is done wrong. Feedback is the only way subordinates will know your priorities, what you expect and how they are ' points: Be clear.
