The morning found them facing the Utah County Predators from Santaquin, a 13-year-old team playing up a division divi-sion for the first time. Pleasant Grove shelled them 28-1. The day's middle effort was an emotional 8-4 victory victo-ry over Taylorsville in eight innings. The Warriors represent rep-resent one of the state's perennial powers and never go down easily. They squeezed one run across in each of three innings to hold a 3-0 lead entering the fifth. The Bangers narrowed that advantage with two runs in the top half, then tied the score with another run in the sixth, forcing the extra inning. Pleasant Grove broke the game open in the top of the eighth. Randy Hansen opened with a walk. With one out, Braden Frampton singled, and Devin Walker doubled to bring in a run. Bezzant then walked, and a Riley White double down the right field line scored two more. "That was the key hit of the game," said coach Kim Walker. "It was the back-breaker." back-breaker." A Weber single drove in the final two runs. Taylorsville was only able to get one more in the bottom half. Walker pitched five innings and White three; they also helped themselves on the other side of the plate as Walker went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and White was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. For the day's third game, the Bangers faced Tim-pview, Tim-pview, and sent them home after five innings with a 26-6 26-6 whipping. Bezzant and Weber combined to give up eight hits. The next day, Pleasant Grove completed tournament tourna-ment pool play with two more victories. The first victim vic-tim was the Uintah Raptors, Rap-tors, who were shut out 5-0. The Bangers scored two runs in the second and one each in the third, fifth and sixth. Hansen went four innings with one hit and four strikeouts. Rickenbach, who had not pitched all season sea-son until this week, "came in and did a great job," Coach Walker said, facing just four batters and giving up no hits in the fifth. Smith finished out the game. Bezzant and Keetch each went 2 for 3. This win actually actu-ally qualified the team to advance to the final rounds, even though they still had a cross-pool game left that day, in which they beat Sky Mountain of Hurricane 12-6 in nine innings. The Bangers scored a run in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. Each team got one in the eighth, but Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove scored seven in the top of the ninth and their opponents only answered with one. "We have kids that just refuse to lose," said Coach Walker. Bezzant was pressed into service on the mound because the team was short on pitching with so many games close together. He threw four innings and "did a great job. Randy came in and gave us three more innings after four in the previous game and gave up just two hits," Walker said. White threw the last two. Frampton went 3 for 3 with an RBI; the team had 11 hits overall. The Bangers finally ran out of steam the next morning, morn-ing, going down to Spanish Fork 5-3. "Egan threw his best game of the year, giving giv-ing up only two hits, but we made two costly errors," Walker said. Pleasant Grove actually led early and were up 3-0 entering the third, but the Dons tied it up that inning and got two more in the sixth to win. "Seven games on high school fields in 11 days is too many," Walker said. "Still, I can't be disappointed disappoint-ed with a 6-1 record, especially espe-cially under these conditions." 4 (otl GaimD power far a " it's time to ivnl:irt nn eneine in your C5M car or lrttk. it's time to choose factory-fresh performance f . i .
