Utah Community Credit Union opens new PG office By Kalyn Secretan The Utah Community Credit Union had it's grand opening last week in the new facility located between Daylight Donuts and the Purple Turtle. The new Credit Union is expanding throughout the valley. It all began as a Campus Credit Union for BYU employees back in 1956. It started out with seven members, they all contributed $5 for a total of $35. Now it has grown to 74,000 members and seven Credit Union Offices. Strawberry Days Queen Amy Worthington was on hand to participate in the ribbon rib-bon cutting along with Kelly Tucker, the manager, and Claralyn Hill, the Chairman of the Board actually doing the cutting. Tucker is a graduate of Pleasant Grove High and is glad to be back in Pleasant Grove. She has been with the East Bay Office for the past eight years. It was noted there is a lot of history of Pleasant Grove on the corner lot. It was once part of the Smith Family Farm, it also served as a gas station and a cafe. The Credit Union did have its challenges bringing the facility to Pleasant Grove and at times the staff thought it seemed impossible. There was a problem prob-lem with the underground storage tanks. Last year, the Utah Community Credit Union changed their membership requirements to serve all those who live, work or worship wor-ship in Utah County. The Credit Union is offering a coupon for a free dozen of Daylight donuts for new members and encourage everyone to join for a community commu-nity celebration on Saturday, June 9 from 11 until 1 p.m. with Cosmo and the new BYU football coach, Gary Crowton.
