Show THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 1970 IM State Parks, Recreation Hove To llew Offices A major office move which will affect thousands ofUtahnsaswell as out - of - state recreation seekers is the transfer, over this weekend, of the main offices of the Utah State Division of Parks and Recreation accordingtoState Parks Director Harold Tippetts. The office being vacated is at 132 South Second West in Salt Lake City. The new offices are located at 1596 West North Temple Tem-ple In a newly constructed addi tion to the bu'lding housing the State Division of Fish and Game. Of particular interest which is affected by the move at this time of yeax, are the hundreds of people peo-ple seeking to register their boats ahead of the recreation an'! especially es-pecially the fishing season. i his move is a major effort by the State Department of Natural Resources to consolidate the offices of-fices of its various divisions, looking toward better purchasing, warehousing, accounting, and other procedures wherein vol umes of business as well as utilization of modern methods and machines can bring about better utilization of space as well as greater efficiency in theStateDe partment. It Is a result of action of the Utah State Legislature which set up in 1967 a Department Depart-ment of Natural Resources com posed of the various divisions of State government that are re sponsible for activities in the natural resource field. To cause as little disruption as possible the move is being made over Arbor Day (a State holiday) and the weekend. State Park office business will resume as usual at 8:30 Monday morning, April 27, at the new location with boat reg istrations and other seasonal operations in full swing. Burton Concerned Over Prisoners, Presses Fcr Answers Congressman Laurence J Burton. R - Utah, recently ex Dressed his concern over the plight of American servicemen whr are prisoners of war of ,the North Vietnamese. Said Congressman Burton, "President Nixon's announce ment of the withdrawal of more American troops is a significant steD toward Deace in Viet Nam. I am pleased by the President's continuing; efforts to bring our men home from this troubled land and to pursue Vietnamiza-tion Vietnamiza-tion of this war. "However, I am deeply concerned con-cerned that in our quest for peace, we might lose sight of another vital effort that of delivering our men from the prisoner of war camps of North Viet Nam so they may be returned re-turned to their homes and fam ilies. "It is estimated that 435 men, some 15 from Utah, are in the hands of the North Vietnamese. I have contacted the Defense De-d De-d a r t m e n t for information re garding ihe steps being taken to secure the freedom of these American servicemen. I intend to personally press this matter with Secretary of Defense Laird. "In addition I am initiating discussions dis-cussions with the American Red Cross, several church groups and other private sources and will contact Secretary of State Laird to determine what steps are being taken through the United Nations to develop possible avenues of action for the return of our men." Driver Safety Course Starts llexf Tuesday The best drivers in Utah County Coun-ty are the ones who recognize they still need to be better, J. Earl Johnson, Safety Director for the Safety Council forUtahCoun- ' ty, said recently. And we're offering of-fering them the best way to do just that -- the Defensive Driv- t ing Course. "As we swing into summer, with vacations and summer outings," out-ings," Johnson stated, "Utah Countv drivers will be doing more and more driving. This, coupled with the influx of tourists visiting visit-ing our area, means that the pos sibility of becoming an accident victim increases. Tne only way that our people can have an accident-free sum 8r," he said, "is to know how to stay out of trpffic trouble." In several before and after studies of persons completing the Defensive Driving Course, of fered by the Council, it has been found that in every instance a substantial reduction in traffic accidents had Deen achieved.
