Carl Davis took the state championship in a playoff play-off game with Roger Parsons after the two tied with 5-1 series. Mr. Davis, of Provo, defeated de-feated Parson's of Midvale, 51-37 51-37 in the playoff game to take the state title. Class B winners in the Utah Open Included Dr. Gilber Moe-singer, Moe-singer, Ogden, first; Floyd Hol-ley, Hol-ley, Springville, second; and Alan Peterson, third. Robert Hall, took fourth place, in Class B, with Joe Sumner, in fifth place; Lynn Buys in Sixth place and Brent Hoganson taking seventh. Class C winners were Rulon Thurgood, Ogden, first; Art Be 11-ingham, 11-ingham, second; Charles Johnson, John-son, third; Harold Chipman, Pay-son, Pay-son, fourth. Cash prizes were awarded in this tournament, which was enjoyed en-joyed by participants and spectators spec-tators alike. The Utah County Open wis played at the Robinson Park pits on Friday night, with Carl Cavis of Provo, also defeating Utah County pitchers for top honors in the county event. The Utah County Open was played with an A and B Class. Class A win-" ners were Mr. Davis, first; Alma Al-ma Madsen, second; and Mel-vin Mel-vin Swain and Roy Odekirk tied for third place. - In1 ''the' Class B Division, Mar on Overson, PLl Grove, took first place honors; Harold Chipman, Payson, took second and Jim Cates, of Am. Fork, pitched his way to third place. Cash awards were presented to winners in the Utah County Open and Mr. Davis won the Utah County Horse shoe pitchers title for the coming year. Thursday tournaments played at the Robinson Park pits included in-cluded three divisions. Novice division for players. 11 years and under, Junior division for those 12 to 15, and Senior Division. Di-vision. Gary Cook took first place in the Novice division, with Glen Buhler coming In second and Kim Christensen placing third. Univer-sity. Under the direction of Dr. Sterling Ster-ling GerU: and the university counseling staff, 22 trainees-many trainees-many of them with several years of experience and working toward to-ward advanced levels of competency-are holding counseling interviews with people of all ages and with a variety of concerns. High enrollment in this course allows counseling for the public through the use of the training train-ing program participants. As part of USU' s counseling education ed-ucation curriculum, the trainees prepare for or upgrade skills for professional, counseling and helping help-ing individuals deal with issues such as vocational dissatisfaction or indecision, school adjustment, family misunderstandings, needs for test information, nervousness about entering high school or college, col-lege, and difficulty in making oneself one-self understood. Mr. Day, is the son of Mrs. 0. C. Day, American Fork. A 1950 graduate, he taught and served serv-ed as counselor at the Utah State Industrial School for eight years and is now working on his masters degree at Utah State. His wife is the former Evelyn Applonie of Riverdale, Utah. four pitchers in each group. Theron Johnson and Rodney Turner reached top place in their respective classes and Mr. Johnson John-son was Ameiican Fork City championship winner in a 30-28 30-28 game for the playoff. Mr. Turner was named second place winner, with Larry Beck as third tplace. Larsen directed the board's discussion of the current position posi-tion of the budget and the building build-ing and sites reports for the month of June. Peterson Peter-son reviewed for board information, informa-tion, the present position of the district in relationship to its tax anticipation needs for the current year. A legal opinion by the nation's top bonding officials voided all agreements concerned with school district tax anticipation that called for interest rates in excess of 5 per cent. Under board direction, Dr. Peterson developed a cooperative venture with local banks that will handle $1,500,000.00 in such notes at the prescribed 5 per cent rate. At the request of the Utah County Office of Civil Defense, the Alpine District Board of Education Ed-ucation passed a resolution that calls for the district's cooperation coopera-tion with the Office of Civil Defense De-fense in future building plans and the general "fall-out shelter" shelt-er" program. Superintendent Dan W. Peterson Peter-son brought to board attention the salary negotiation picture as of the present time. Several meetings and discussions discus-sions have been held with the district administration and the association representatives. Seven of the smaller districts in the state have signed con tracts for the :oming year. None of the major districts have come to an agreement at the present time. S. Thornock, Forest Supervisor, Uinta National Forest. This scenic mountain drive begins be-gins near the summit of the Alpine Scenic Highway and continues con-tinues eastward six and one half miles through conifer, aspen, and oak. The road will connect the beautiful Alpine Scenic Highway with the Midway Deer Creek road, and will provide access to Wasatch Wa-satch Mountain State Park and the popular Cascade Springs. The official opening date to the general public will be announced by the Forest Supervisor soon after the road is accepted. The present contract with Strong Company of Springville, calls for i gravel surface. The road will be hard surfaced in a couple of years, after the fills have had time to consolidate. Mr. Chipman reported considerable growth in the program pro-gram and expressed the hope that many employees would enjoy en-joy better retirement conditions because of it. Assistant Superintendent Quinn A. Hatch presented for board considaration the Supervisors' Report for the 1968-69 year. Dr. Hatch reviewed highlights of the report and the board expressed its appreciation and approval. The greatest lesson in life is to realize that even fools are right sometimes. Who fears to offend takes the first step to please. Any man make a mistake, but only a fool will continue in it.
