They offer 20 discount on software. Computer software company opens in Pleasant Grove Software Cottage, owned by Rex and Cathie Murdock, is now handling software for most brands of home micro-computers. The new firm opened on Jan. 1. They sell the programs at 20 percent off the retail price because they work out of their home and have a low overhead. They deliver the programs to the homes of those who place the orders. Orders or information about the programs can be had by calling 7850509. They have programs geared for recreation purposes, business, home, education, books, and have a small amount of hardware and accessories. Rex said that many people are interested in educational programs, small business programs and construction company programs. The couple explained that when they got their micro-computer they found it was hard to find software that they could afford For that reason they decided to go into the software business. They felt that other users were probably finding it as hard to get software as they did. Cathie said that they plan to maintain the 20 pm'nt off permanently. They are mainly competing with the mail-order software business. She said they can make delivery much faster than mail order and they will deliver the program right to the homes. She said another advantage is that those ordering software programs do not have to pay for them until they deliver them. Mailorder Mail-order usually asks for the money when the order is placed although the product has not been seen. Cathie noted that it has been fun working with the micro-computer and learning how it works. She was somewhat afraid to use it when her husband asked her to do his term papers on it She is much more comfortable with it now, she explained. She added that they will do their best to get the program that a person needs. They hope to be able to get the software to people which will make them happy to use their home computer. Rex, who recently obtained a degree in Business Management and Marketing from Stevens Henager College, said they have been planning to go into this business for quite a while. He explained that they have cataloged all the available software programs on their computer so that they can look it up quic kly for those who call. Cathie also enjoys raising English Springer Spaniels and showing them. She and Rex have four children. She likes working at home so that she can be with the children. Rex is a deputy with the Utah County Sheriffs Office. He has trained dogs for search and rescue for the county. He also trains the English Springer Spaniels. He enjoys doing outdoor things such as fishing. The couple has lived in Pleasant Grove for eight years.
