LODGING SERVICE-Laurel Kay, Assistant Administrator, Nursing, at American Fork Hospital, visits with Nondas Young, My ton, one of first to take advantage of the newly offered lodging service at the American Fork Hospital. AF Hospital offers lodging services A "shower" of meteors is expected ex-pected the night of Friday, August 12. All through the night, brief, needle-like streaks of light will cut across the sky as the Perseid Meteor Shower creates what is usually the best meteor display of the year. Observers away from city lights may be able to count up to 50 streaks per hour. The number of meteors which can be seen is usually greater after midnight because our part of the Earth is then facing forward in our journey around the sun and we are then heading into the meteoroid swarm. These meteors are called the Perseids because long-exposure photographs show that the metors seem to radiate from the direction of the constellation Perseus. Often called "shooting stars" or "falling stars," meteors are actually ac-tually tiny bits of rock and are seldom larger than a grain of sand. They strike the upper atmosphere of the Earth and burn up because of air friction at an altitude of 60 to 100 kilometers (40 to 60 miles). Most meteor particles are the remnants of a comet. The Perseid Meteor Shower is believed to be debris from Comet Swift-Tultle, which was first charted in 1862. The Perseid Meteor Shower may also be visible on the nights of Aug. 10, 11, 13 and 14, but the number of meteors seen on those nights will be fewer because the Earth will then be less centered in the swarm of comet particles. Telescopes or binoculars are not recommended for viewing a meteor shower. An observer should try to find a location away from lights and should look high in the northeastern sky for the best view of the Perseid display of "falling stars." A hospital spokesman said for $25, two people can stay overnight in a hospital room. Since they are not admitted as patients, nurses do not render any services and meals are not provided. However, they can enjoy many of the same features offered in a hotel. They have the convenience con-venience of being right in the hospital ready for the early Same Day Surgery schedule, as well as a color television with four movies a day. They can eat in the hospital dining room downstairs or snack in the Pink Shoppe. The hospital would first use semi-private semi-private rooms to accomodate the overnight lodgers and then regular rooms, it is noted. OF THE MONTH Kwilt-SeaP DAP1 m Sfai Grtat Value! Before the new service was started, they would have to drive up and stay in a Provo or Orem hotel or motel before coming to the hospital for the surgery. Nondas Young, Myton, expressed appreciation for the new service last week. She was here with a son who was receiving surgery. She stated she didn't like to drive at night, and being able to stay right in the hospital made it convenient not only that way, but also made it possible for them "to be right here in time for the early morning surgery." "American - Fork Hospital is believed the first hospital in the state to offer lodgings "right in the hospital" although several Salt Lake hospitals have places available near by. State Fair to feature country-western stars Utah's largest event of the year, the annual Utah State Fair, will again feature some of the nation's biggest country-western singing stars, according to Fair Director Art Jones. "Folks who normally are willing to pay ten dollars or more to hear a star like Mel Tillis or Tom T. Hall sing can come to the Fair -scheduled this year for Sept. 8-18 -and hear them at no extra cost, once they pay the $3.50 adult general admission price," Jones said in announcing the 1983 line-up of stars. Youth 6-16 years old pay $1.50 and children under 6 get in free, he added. Persons who want to be sure of a seat for either of two nightly performances per-formances by any of the singing stars can purchase reserved seats for $3 each, the fair director said. One thousand reserved seats will be sold for each performance, in addition ad-dition to the 5,000 free seats . available to fair goers. Information is available on reserved seats as ' well as season and family passes by phoning the fair office at 533-5858. Prize-winning livestock, crops, home arts and fine arts will be on display, and new Hispanic, Indian and Mountain Man villages, plus a great midway by B&B Amusements are all part of the 1983 State Fair, Jones pointed out. The Ice Capades showing of Smurfs Alive" at the Salt Palace from Sept. 8-18 sets up two great family values for the price of one," Jones explained, because an ice show ticket includes admission to the state fair."
