Show keeping people healthy, happy Thursday, May 12, 1983 - Page 13 '.Dedication of the new Wells Fargo Gamefield Fitness Court, a reiay race, employee barbecue, announcement of baby photo contest con-test winners and a free tuberculosis test for the general public were all part of the opening day observance Monday of National Hospital Week atAmerican Fork Hospital. yOther activities included a free foot screening test on Tuesday, a free glucose test Wednesday and a "Coping with Stress" workshop this evening at 7 p.m. in the hospital conference room. .The public is invited to the workshop. There is no admission AF observes National Hospital week charge. Mark J. Howard, hospital administrator, ad-ministrator, said the fitness court is part of the hospital's preventive medicine program. He said it is designed for warm up and cool down exercises and can be used by the entire family. The versatile course is designed to augment walking, jogging, cycling or swimming and to provide a flexible and powerful total conditioning routine, he said. He urged the public to use the court, "Our desire is to help keep people healthy and happy and living a longer, usefull life," he said. He noted a joggingrunning course, a mile in length, is being developed around the hospital grounds. Mr. Howard, Mayor Malcolm H. Beck and Mrs. Phyllis Thomson participated in cutting the line to officially open the course. Immediately after the dedication, runners took part in a one-mile relay race around the hospital drive way areas. The winning team included Priscilla Rushton, Barbara Ferguson and Dr. Carl T. Bell of the American Fork Hospital and Doug Wood of Mountain View Hospital in Payson. 'UNIFORMS-through the ages were modeled by staff members at the American Fork Hospital. Here are some of those displayed. Volunteers dedicated to service It takes dedication to serve as a volunteer at an organization for 22 years, but that's what Nona Bingham of Pleasant Grove has done. Mrs. Bingham served as the first, presideht of the Volunteer Auxiliary - then known as the Pink Ladies Auxiliary - at the American Fork Hospital when it was first organized - and still continues to donate her time each week to the patients and staff at the hospital. She was among those honored for years of service at the Volunteer Auxiliary awards banquet held at the Alpine Country Club on May 4. Close behind her in years of service are Margaret Faddi" and Ruth Meranda, both of American Fork, wfio have served for 21 years in the organization. Other with "long-time service" are Duretha Smith, 16 years; Laura Parduhn, Velda Smuin, Donna Chilton, and Betty McTague, 14 years; Monte Goodsell, Leona Larson, Grace Jensen, Electa .Smith, Luana Smith, Emma Parker, LaRene Ashby and Irene JCarl, 13 years. Weight loss class begins A new Behavior Modification weight loss class began at the American Fork Hospital on Wednesday Wed-nesday of this week. .The class is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the hospital board room, according to Bob Riggs, instructor- It is each week for eight weeks. A fashion show featuring uniforms through the ages from the beginning of nursing in Florence Nightingale's' time was held in the hospital cafeteria during the employee em-ployee barbecue. Included were the different types of uniforms worn during the development of the profession to its present time - and even a proposed uniform for the future. "Hot Lips Hooligan" (or it could have been Clinger) displayed the MASH uniform of the Korean War. Also announced during the barbecue bar-becue were the winners of the baby photo contest. Hospital spokesman said there were over 350 entries in the competition. Judged to have the biggest eyes was Stephanie Evans, daughter of Steven and Beate Evans; the brightest smile, Chanile Walters, daughter of Kyle and Denice Walters; and over all photogenic, Jake Francom, son of Kurtley and Kathy Francom, all of American Fork.
