On July 8, Coach Houle was inducted in-ducted into the National Federation Federa-tion of High School Coaches Hall of Fame in Minneapolis. Minnesota. Minne-sota. His Class of 2000 contained former Boston Celtic Kevin McHale and one of the preatest runners of all time. Steve Prefontaine. Coach Houle has won more state championships than any other coach in the country, coun-try, active or retired. In the spring of 2000, The Salt Lake Tribune presented bot h his boys and girls cross country team with its prestigious "Programs of the Century" awards. Y2K hasn't been the only successful suc-cessful year for coach Houle. He has also set a national record by winning five state championships champion-ships in the 1997-98 school year. In 1999, Coach Houle was also inducted into the SUU Summer Games Hall of Fame and won the Utah State Senate and House of Representatives Award. Brigham Young University has also awarded Coach Houle the Dale Rex Memorial Award in 1995, which is the top sports award given by BYU. As a head coach, Houle has won an unprecedented unprec-edented 49 Utah state championships champi-onships and 63 regional championships champi-onships in cross country, girls basketball and track. He has been named the Utah Coach of the Year 37 times and has bee the National Federation's Coach of the Year 1 times. He has led his teams to three National Girls Cross Country titles and two National Boys Cross Country title. Overall the Mountain View cross country protrram n ha be named the Top Cross Country Program Pro-gram in the Nation by Harrier magazine. maga-zine. Coach Houle's boys and girls track team have won four straight team state championships. Houle's girls basketball basket-ball teams have been ranked in the top 10 in the nation three times and will likely be ranked that high again this winter. He has an overall coaching record of 906-83 (92) Coach Houle was born in Honolulu, Ho-nolulu, Hawaii and grew up in Dugway, Utah, the second child of 11. He attended Dugway High School, where he was Student Body President. Coach Houle attended at-tended Dixie College on a football foot-ball and track scholarship. He graduated from SUU with a BS in special education. Dave is married to Laura Lamoreaux and they have two children, Starre and Davy. Davy recently returned from a LDS mission to New.
