For the second year m a row, fourth grade teacher Kachelle BoIlitiKhrook turned the end of Cherry Hill Klementary's fourth p-ade I'tah History unit with a successful "Pioneer Hay." The classmates broke up into "families" each led by a volunteer adult and set off pulling and pushing handi arts to a site nearly a mile awav where lunch and a day lull of pioneer and mountain man activities awaited t hem "One of our sixth grade teachers, teach-ers, Scott Strong is a mountain man and his father owns this property." Hollingbrook said, in dicating the acreage that included fire pits, tepees, rope swings and many other potential activities for youngsters. Along the way from the school to the destination, the handcart families faced several scenario, from broken axles to having the majority of the males called to join the Mormon Battalion. Battal-ion. At Strong's home, the students enjoyed a lunch of authentic mountain man beef stew, then spent the afternoon playing on the swing, listening to stories and learning about a mountain man's life and making pioneer crafts. BY BRITTANY FULLER This Wednesday, May 23, is the 9th grade Honors night from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. All parents are invited. in-vited. Lakeridge would like to thank Mrs. Hovikour librarian for helping help-ing the kids to get their library fines in. 9th grade won with 17, 8th came in second with 18 and 7th garde in last with 40. On Thursday, May 24 all textbooks text-books are due. Teachers will go through all lockers at the end of the day. Parents please help your kids to gather all their textbooks. On Tuesday, May 29 the 9th graders will be having a Beach Party. It will be at the SCERA pool from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Please come. It will be a blast. On May 30, the 9th graders are going to Lagoon and the 7th and 8th graders are going to Seven Peaks. Yearbook day is May 31. June 1 is the last day of school and refunds will be given out. Frances Atkinson honored at Cascade Mrs. Frances Atkinson was the Kishindo's choice for the May teacher recognition award at Cascade Cas-cade Elementary. Her career in education began in 1965 when she began teaching fourth grade in a traditional setting. Since 1988, she has been Cascade's social studies specialist. Frances has been active in the Alpine Education Association and Utah Education Association throughout her career. In the district, dis-trict, she was chosen as "Teacher of the Year" in 1998. At Cascade, she has been the student council advisor since 1995, and has given countless hours to enrich students' stu-dents' lives. Without a formal assignment, as-signment, she often serves as mentor to new teachers and student stu-dent teachers, as well as supporting support-ing all the staff.
