"All my friends did it, my dad did it, so I decided to try it out. Plus, I run track and cross country helps me with track." On what he loves most about cross country. "The friendships you get from it. Traveling with the team is really great." On being named national champions. "It is something I can look back on when I am older as a real accomplishment in my life." On plans for the future. "I will be running again next year. I definitely defi-nitely want to continue running. I hope I get the chance to run in college." Sterling Goodwin Sophomore On how he first became interested inter-ested in cross country. "My brother started running and I just became interested. I have just liked it ever since I started." On what he loves most about cross country. "I like that everyone every-one gets a chance to run in the meets. Everyone gets a chance to compete. It is a fun sport." On being named national champions. "I was excited. It was unreal. I've wanted to be a national na-tional champion since my brother won a few years ago." On plans for the future. "Finish "Fin-ish high school. Go on a mission. Then plan to go to college. I would like to run in college if that opportunity op-portunity is there." Eric Stephen Junior On how he first became interested inter-ested in cross country. "I've been running since I was about 6 years old on the Orem Track Club Team. So I've always been running. run-ning. Plus, my sister ran in it before be-fore me." On what he loves most about cross country. "The team members. mem-bers. I love being part of the team with great people and good friends. I also like just competing. On being named national champions. "It was great. It seemed like all our hard work and effort paid off. It felt good." On plans for the future. "Continue "Con-tinue running cross country. Hopefully I will get a scholarship to run in college." Steve Strickland Freshman On how he first became interested inter-ested in cross country. "I ran track in junior high. I really liked it, so I decided I wanted to run cross country." On what he loves most about cross country. "I like the races. I also like traveling with the team and making friends." On being named national champions. "I was really excited!" On plans for the future. "I'm going to keep running cross country coun-try and track in high school. I hupe to run in college." I'll Dustin Bybee Dustin Bybee Senior On how he first became interested in-terested in cross country. "My family started running. My sister started before me and we all just fell into the mold. On what he loves most about cross country. "Not being be-ing cooped up but being outside out-side running with my friends. I also enjoy the runners high I get from running." On being named national champions. "It was the greatest great-est feeling in the world. You always al-ways think about state championships cham-pionships but national champions. ..your just like 'Wow!, number one in the nation." On plans for the future. "I will go on a mission right out of high school. Then when I get back I want to run in college." Kyle Cramer rl Jr TV Junior On how he first became interested in cross country. "My dad is a runner, run-ner, and as a kid I would ride my bike five miles almost everyday while he ran. I started running in seventh grade for the Canyon View Junior High team. It was something I wanted to do. I started running for Moun tain View the summer before my freshman year. Training with all of amazing runners and people is amazing. The older people on the team were always amazing examples. On what he loves most about cross country. "The people-runners are amazing people. Anyone who runs cross country is amazing, whether they are scary fast, or struggling to finish the race. Everyone who runs deserves a huge amount of respect. On being named national champions. "It was an indescribable feeling. It was kind of like 'Wow, we actually are the best team in the nation.' After winning in North Carolina, I was thinking, 'we could be national champions.' Then it actually happened! I think we all felt like we had earned it, but it was incredible to have done it." On plans for the future. "I will definitely run my senior year. After that I will go to college and serve a mission. I hope that I will be able to race in college. After college I would like to be a recording engineer. Somewhere along in life, I hope I will meet Miss Perfect and we will get married and have a family. Hopefully, Hope-fully, my kids will want to run, and will enjoy it as much as I have and do!" I decided to try running and I've loved it ever since." On what he loves most about cross country. "My favorite thing about cross country is the thrill and excitement of the race. Like when we went to North Carolina, I was excited ex-cited about the race. It was so cool to see all the other people from all over the country." On being named national champions. "It was so awe some. When we were in the assembly as-sembly where they announced us the national champions, it was just like a dream. I was so happy and excited." On plans for the future. "I plan top go on a mission after high school. "I first started running run-ning a little bit in fifth grade. In seventh sev-enth grade I did junior high cross country to get ready for basketball sea son. In tenth grade, I quit playing basketball bas-ketball and stuck to running. On what he loves most about cross country. "My favorite thing is being with the people on the team. I've made many close friends from my association asso-ciation with and participation participa-tion in cross country. On being named national Dirk Black champions. "I do not think it really sunk in. I now feel proudof how hard our team worked during the summertime to get in great shape for the season. It's an awesome accomplishment." On plans for the future. "I plan on attending BYU, but I do not plan on running for BYU. "Runners from previous years comanced me to try it. I hated it at first but through practice and hard work I grew to love it. Chandler Goodwin On what he loves most about cross country. "The people that I run with, we are all good friends and when we travel all over America it is nice to have good company." On being named national champions. "It felt good after kind of getting robbed of it 1999 cause of east coast bias. It was good to bring it to this team because be-cause nobody was thinking national title at the beginning of the summer and being underdogs when we went to North Carolina. Winning was real nice." On plans for the future. "I plan on serving an LDS mission and coming back to run for either a number of colleges, BYU, Southern Utah, Oregon, Iona. Nathan Houle r Sophomore Nate Houle On how he first became interested inter-ested in cross country. "When I was 7 years-old, my sister's friend found out about the Orem Track Club and wanted my sister and I to go do it with her. Also, my dad ran track and cross country in high school." On what he loves most about cross country. "I like a nice mountain run up to Mount Baldy or Deer Valley and not being in too much pain." On being named national champions. "I was very relieved, re-lieved, because we waited since our North Carolina race back in the early part of the season." On plans for the future. "I want to gd on a mission then go to college and run track and cross country. Hopefully be some kind of an engineer. V V. -'XT.
