Show Katherine Little , Bartholomew to Katherine Little, daughter of William and Jane Rose, Glendale, Arizona, will marry Christopher James Bartholomew, son of Byrd and Jewel Bartholomew, Orem, Utah, Saturday, May 13, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Phoenix, Arizona. Receptions will honor the couple that afternoon in Chandler, Arizona and on Saturday, May 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 197 East 980 North, Orem, Utah. Attending the bride will be An-neliese An-neliese Klemstine as Maid of Honor. Best man will be Michael J. Bartholomew. The bride-elect graduated from Prescott High School in Prescott, Arizona. She has served a seven year tour of duty in the U.S. Navy and is currently employed at Williams Wil-liams Air Force Base as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Her fiance graduated from Orem High School where he was active in music and science circles. He was the science Sterling Scholar nominee, a member of the National Honor Society and is listed in Scott Pippin earns Eagle Scott Pippin, 14, son of Jack and Diane Pippin of Orem, received his Eagle Scout award in a Court of Honor ceremony held Sunday, May 7. Scott is a member of the 6457 Team in the Orchard 3rd Ward. He attends Canyon View Junior High. For his Eagle project, Scott helped the librarian at Orem High School put magnetic tabs in the library books for the new scanner that was installed at the library last year. Registration underway for new Alpine Dist. Summer School Programs The end of the regular srhnnl year for most students in Alpine School District is approaching, bringing excitement for many, but also sense of dread and fear for those anticipating long summer sum-mer days of boredom or the inability in-ability to graduate because of a loss of credit. This week the Alpine Al-pine School District Community and Adult Education Department distributed over 40,000 brochures to Northern Utah County homes and school students stu-dents describing their new summer sum-mer school program designed especially to meet the needs of students such as those described above. This year the District's Summer Sum-mer School offering has several components. First of all, both Remedial and Enrichment courses cour-ses will be held for the elementary aged student. Courses to be offered of-fered include Reading, Spanish Immersion Review, several Computer Com-puter classes and many others. A new and especially featured program pro-gram called "Summer Magic" will also be offered. Also new this year to the District will be the opportunity oppor-tunity for students to participate int he individualized instruction available on the WICAT computers com-puters at Geneva Elementary. Secondary students needing to make up credit lost during the regul ar academic year, i mprove D grades, or improve study habits will be able to do so in a new way this year through the District's summer program. The bulk of the secondary program will include five components designed to meet the credit and learning needs of students in a more individualized way that traditional seat-time summer school classes have offered of-fered in the past. Dean graduated from Mountain Moun-tain View High School and LDS Seminary in 1988 and attended Rick's College. Through participation in this program students will be able to earn anywhere from .25 to 2.0 units of credit in a large variety of subjects. Orchestra competition Saturday On May 13, Orem High's orchestra or-chestra will participate in the state competition. It will be held at the Utah State University. The festival begins at 9 a.m. In order for a band to have part in the competition, they must first receive number one ratings in the region competition. The couple will make their first home in Orem. Phillip Staples completes recruit training Marine Pvt. Phillip A. Staples, son of Tyler A. and Sheila M. Staples of 53 E. 400 N., Orem, UT, has completed recruit training train-ing at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. During the 11-week training cycle, Staples was taught the basics of battlefield survival. He was introduced to the typical daily routine that he will experience ex-perience during his enlistment and studied the personal and professional standards traditionally tradition-ally exhibited by Marines. He participated in an active physical conditioning program and gained proficiency in a variety of military skills, including includ-ing first aid, rifle marksmanship and close order drill. Teamwork and self-discipline were emphasized em-phasized throughout the training cycle. A 1983 graduate of Orem High School, he joined the Marine Corps in December 1988. Squaw Peak District changes Round Table Squaw peak District leaders announced changes in the location for Round Table beginning this month. Scouting Coordinators, Cub Scout Leaders, Varsity Scout Leaders will meet at the Orem East Stake Center, 800 East and 600 North at 7 p.m. on May 11. Scout Round Table will continue con-tinue to be held at 7 p.m. at the chapel on 600 North 1120 East. Explorer Round Table will be at Utah Canyon View Stake Center on 800 North at about 700 East. Orem students take national "Jets" test Three Orem High School students stu-dents recently took part in the National JETS Competition held at BYU. Randy Reynolds, Kristen Hacken, and Steve Taylor where part of the 12-member team representing rep-resenting the state of Utah. In order to make the state team they had to place 1st or 2nd in the state competition. Reynolds took the national test in math and physics, while Hacken and Taylor took the English tests. The results of the tests will be released sometime in June. Utah Lake Dist. Roundtable Thurs.
