I'.':. i - -v. h Loreen Bliss Lorecn Haight Bliss, 89, of Provo, and former long time resident of Orem, died Sunday, May 7, 1989 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. She was born May 24, 1899 in Cedar City, a daughter of Isaac C. and Elizabeth Mary Kleinman Haight. She married Clarence Bliss June 6, 1922 in the St. George LDS Temple. He died June 28, 1978. She grew up in Cedar City. She received a teaching certificate from the State Branch Agriculture College in Cedar City. She taught school in Hinckley. She and her husband with their family moved to Orem in 1943. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in the Young Women's program in both the ward and stake. She was stake Young Women's president, a Primary teacher, served in the Relief Society and was a visiting teacher. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Veterans of World War I Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons and two daughters: Marion Dee Bliss, Weatherford, Texas; C. Kent Bliss, Provo; Mrs. Max (Renee) Edwards, Lindon; Mrs. Klar (Eugenia) Robinson, Robin-son, Richfield; 23 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. A son, Bruce Bliss, preceded her in death. Funeral will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. in Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State, Orem. Friends may call Wednesday one hour prior to services at the mortuary. Burial will be in Orem City Cemetery. John Henry Hardy John Henry Hardy, 92, of Spri ngvillc, died Friday, May 5, 1989, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Cen-ter, Provo. He was born Nov. 19, 1896 in Moroni to Aaron and Amy Faux Hardy. He married Ella Delphia Mor-ley.Oct. Mor-ley.Oct. U, 19 16 in Moroni. The marriage mar-riage was later" solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. She died in 1966. He married Leona Peterson Dec. 10, 1966 in Salt Lake City. Burial was in Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Sheila Hickman Sheila Hickman, 5, of Spanish Fork, died Wednesday, May 3, 1989 from injuries suffered in an accident. She was born Jan. 31, 1984 in Payson, the daughter of Kevin S. and Lisa Vincent Hickman. She was the great-granddaughter of Orval Harmer of Orem. Funeral services were Saturday in Spanish Fork. Atkinson Carl Elwood Atkinson, 74, died Friday, May 5, 1989, at his home in Orem, of cancer. He was born July 12, 1914 in Alta Vista, Va., the son of George Wilton and Lillie McGee Atkinson. At-kinson. He married Geraldine Niel-son Niel-son in 1935. They were later divorced. He married Miken Anderson in 1962. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He first came to Utah County with the Civilian Conservation Corps group in 1933. He decided to make it his home. He established several businesses busi-nesses in Utah County during the 54 years that he resided here. He owned the first concrete business in Utah County: Atkinson Red-E-Mix. He was particularly proud to have provided the concrete for the aqueduct in Provo Canyon that provides power to Utah County. He was an avid aviator and owned several aircraft. He enjoyed amateur photography. Survivors include his wife of Orem; two daughters and one son: Mrs. Dennis (Bernice) Callahan, Petaluma, Calif., Carl E. Atkinson Jr., Glendale, Calif., Marci Magatelli, Menlo Park, Calif., six grandchildren; two sisters, Lottie Baldridge, Kansas City, Mo., and Virginia Simms, Southern Pine, N.C. Funeral was Monday in Provo. Burial was in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Jack Aime Jack Aime, 83, died Tuesday, May 2, 1989 at Crossland Care Center. He was born April 19, 1906 in Bowie, colo., to John and Teresa Fon-tana Fon-tana Aime. He married LoElla Erick-sen, Erick-sen, Sept. 26, 1936 in Orem. She died June 4, 1987. He graduated from Coyne Electrical Electri-cal School in Chicago, 111., on Aug. 20, 1927. He was chief electrician for Independent In-dependent Coal and Coke in Kenil-worth Kenil-worth from 1930 to 1938. From 1938 to 1942 he was city electrician in Helper. Hel-per. In 1942 he moved to Provo and was electrician for Foley Electric Company during construction of United States Steel Geneva Division at Orem. In 19043 he became general foreman for maintenance in the blast furnace at Geneva. In 1055 he became general superintendent of the blast furnace at Iron ton Works and retired July 1, 1970. He was a member of the Masons for 50 years. He was also a member of the American Institute of Metallurgical Metallurgi-cal Engineers. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dee (Jackie) Johnson; one brother Frank Aime: one sister, Kate Nelson; six grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Funeral was held Friday in Provo. Burial in the Orem City Cemetery. James Widdop James Taylor Widdop, 69, of Orem, died Wednesday, May 3, 1989, of injuries sustained in an automobile -accident. He was born July 10, 1919 in Lyman, Wyo., to James and Beulah Taylor Widdop. He married Shirley Chatterley, Dec. 3, 1940 in Kanab. He was raised in Mountain View, Wyo., graduating from high school there. He moved with his wife to Green River, Wyo. where they made their home until June 1950, when they moved to Provo. They later moved to Orem, where he has lived since. He served in the armed forces during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on Jan. 16, 1951. He is survived by his wife, Orem; one daughter and two sons: Mrs. David (Sandra) Davis, Shawnee, Kan.; Charles LeRoy (Chuck) Widdop, Wid-dop, Durango, Colo.; Ricky James Widdop, Lehi; nine grandchildren; one brother and five sisters: Charles Widdop, Fort Bridger, Wyo.; Edna Harvey, Salt Lake City; Elva Dahlquist, Jackson Hole, Wyo.' Leo Hone Leo Hone, 77, of springville, died Thursday, May 4, 1989 at Utah Valley Val-ley Regional Medical Center. He was born April 10, 1912 in Springville to George W. and Emma LaDell Beardall Hone. He married Eva Barker Jan. 25, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is survived by his wife of Springville; two sons, George Hone, Provo; Neil Hone, Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur L. (Vera) Shepherd and Mrs. Mark J. (Laverne) Sheeley, both of Orem; five grand children; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday. Burial was in Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Don Bellows Don Alan Bellows, 28, Orem, died Tuesday, May 2, 1989 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was born Feb. 2, 1961 in Provo, the eldest son of Merrill Don and Mary Mecham Bellows. He married mar-ried Trixie Mae Hickcn. Feb. 16, 1983 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was educated in Hebcr City Schools and graduated from Wasatch High School. He attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in accounting. He worked as an assistant manager for" Fred Meyer in Orem and Spanish fork. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had served a mission to the Lima Peru South Mission, served as ward clerk and as Boy Scout committee chairman. Survivors include his wife of Orem, three sons, Kenneth Bellows, Jason Bellows, Stephen Bellows, all ' of Orem; his parents of Hcber; one i brother and two sisters, Mark Bellows, Bel-lows, Janice Bellows, both of Heber; Mrs. Craig (Merilyn B.) Butters, Wallsburg. Funeral was held Friday in Orem.Burial in Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Kimberlee M. Johnson Desmond L. Johnson, 48, Carolyn K Johnson, 43, and Kimberlee M. Johnson, 6, all of Boise, Idaho, died Friday, April 21, 1989, on Interstate 84 near Burley of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Funeral services were held on April 27, in the Amity Road-Clover-dale Road LDS Chapel. Burial was in the Meridian Cemetery. Desmond was born May 25, 1940, at Provo, Utah, a son of Vern L. and Lily M. Evans Johnson. He received his education and graduated from Orem High School in 1958. From 1960-61, he served a mission for the LDS Church in Great Britain. He married Carolyn Kitchen on Nov. 22, 1963, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1965, he graduated from Brigham Young University at Provo, and as a family the moved to Commerce, Calif, where Desmond worked as a claims adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance In-surance Co. In 1968, his company moved him back to Orem, Utah. In 1974, he was promoted to claims supervisor su-pervisor which took them to Clovis, Calif. They made their home in Clovis for five years, and in 1979, moved to Boise where he was promoted to claims manager. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong member mem-ber of the LDS Church, and served as a high priest in the Meridian 16th Ward. For many years, he was active in Scouting, and worked as a Young Men's advisor, as a member of the 14th Ward Bishopric, and was a Sunday Sun-day School teacher at the time of his death. An avid outdoorsman, Desmond had enjoyed the time he spent with his family backpacking, hunting and fishing. Carolyn was born June 22, 1945, at Logan, Utah, a daughter of Norval T. and Fay Kitchen. She received her education and graduated from Orem High School in 1963. After she and Desmond were married, she worked at Utah Valley hospital while her husband hus-band was attending school. As an active member of the LDS Church, she had served in the PHmafy and Junior Sunday School. At' the time of her death, she was" called to do computer work int he stake extraction program. Carolyn' was always involved in sports programs, as a player, coach, and sports director. Mrs. Johnson had also worked for the State of Idaho Department of Employment, Fabric Alley, U.S. West Direct, and in various other jobs including in-cluding caring for children in her home. She was mainly a homemaker and friend. Kimberlee Malinda was born June 11, 1982, at Boise, Idaho. She was attending the first grade in Mrs. Coats' class at Lake Hazel Primary School. She was a very special little i rl. In school, she would write about er love for her family. She brought joy to those who knew her. She was very active in her Primary CTR class. Survivors include Desmond's and Carolyn's children: a son, Shane Lee Johnson of Boise, and two daughters, Rachelle Lee Johnson and Tiffany Lee Johnson; Desmond's two sisters: Vanessa L. Hudman and Christine M. Nightingale; Carolyn's four brothers: Sherman Kitchen, Dar- -rell Kitchen, Marvin Kitchen and Steve Kitchen; Carolyn's three sisters: LaRae Mooscman, Rosalie Ostler, and Norma Brookes; and Carolyn's parents: Norval T. and Fay R. Kitchen. Keith G. Stevenson Keith Grange Stevenson, 74, Orem, died Monday, May 8, 1989 in Orem. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m.l at the Lakeview 8th Ward, 155 W. 1600 S., Orem. He was born Sept. 24, 1928 in Park City, a son of Ruben Glen and Erva Lanore Peay Casper. He married mar-ried Sena Elvera Kennedy, July 10, 1948 in Provo. He received his education in Provo schools. He has been employed in the plastering business since he was 20 years old, and has been a plastering contractor since 1973. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horse racing and he owned race horses. hor-ses. Nelson, 93, died Tuesday, Tues-day, May 2, 1989 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of heart failure. He was born Oct. 12, 1895 in Riverdale, Idaho, a son of John C. and Mary Crouch Nelson. He married Mabel Leavitt, Oct. 30, 1924 in the CardstonLDSTemple. She later died. He received his education in the Riverdale, Idaho schools. The family moved to Clairslholm, Canada, where they farmed. He later moved to Glen-wood, Glen-wood, Alberta, Canada, where he also farmed. He married and made his home in Canada until moving to Shelby, Shel-by, Mont., and then to Orem in 1951, where he had lived since. He worked for Brigham Young University as a supervisor until he retired. He was a member of the LDS Church. He was a high priest in the Suncrest 5th Ward, Orem. He served a mission to Toronto, Canada and Redwing, Minn., and also a stake mission mis-sion in Orem. He served as branch president in Montana. He is survived by three sons and two daughters: William B. Nelson and Keith L. Nelson, both Fremont, Calif.; Wallace S. Nelson, Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Edward T. (June) Neal, Moab; Mrs. Dale E. (Joan) Hemen-way, Hemen-way, Orem; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters: Loren Nelson, Sterling, Alberta, Canada; Oneta Billingsley, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. De Loy (Durraine) Levitt, Cardston, Alberta. Bakeman, 76, of Springville, died Saturday, may 6, 1989, at a Provo convalescent center. She was born June 27, 1912 in Willmar, Minn, to John Steele and Lena Roaberg, and raised by her stepfather step-father Archie Shaw. She married Walter W. Bakeman, Dec. 21, 1934 in Mi not, N.D. He died in November of 1983. She is survived by one son and two daughters including Linda Decker Deck-er of Orem. Burial was Monday, May 8, in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. it Retired Herald editor dies at age 75 N. LaVerl Christensen, 75, Editor Emeritus of the Daily Herald, Provo, died Saturday, May 6, 1989. He was born Dec. 6, 1913 in Hinckley, Millard County, the son of Niels Hyrum and Josephine Sorenson Christensen. He married Faye Erva Van Wagenen, May 5, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Hinckley High School in 1932, Snow College in Ephraim in 1934, and Brigham Young University in 1937. He was the Herald's managing editor for five years and editor for 25 years prior to retirement Oct. 12, 1979. He served more than 45 years in newspapering altogether, all with the Herald and Scripps League Newspapers, Inc., except a short period with the Deseret News. He had been a reporter, sports editor and city editor before being named managing editor in 1949. As editor emeritus he became a writer-columnist for Scripps League of which the Herald is a member, he held this position until he suffered a partial stroke Oct. 22, 1982, and worked part-time since then. He served as part-time special instructor in-structor in journalism at Brigham Young University for several years early in his newspaper career. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had held the positions of bishop of the Provo 4th Ward, a member of the Utah Stake High Council, and counselor int he presidency of Provo Central Stake. His civic leadership positions have included member, governor-appointed Snow College Institutional Council; chairman twice (1956 and 1966) of Business-Industry-Education Day for Provo Chamber of Commerce; Com-merce; member, Chamber of Commerce Com-merce Board of Directors; com- Jay Hatch Jay Ivan Hatch, 61, of Provo, died Sunday, May 7, 1989, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, from complications com-plications of Lupus Disease. Cecil Robertson Cecil Marjorie Nash Robertson, 89, of Springville, died Saturday, May 6, 1989, at an Orem care center. She was born Feb. 9, 1900 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, to Vivian George and Julia May Place Nash. She married Leo G. Robertson, May 4, 1921 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died Sept. 24, 1983. She is survived by hoer son, Dr. L. Eugene Robertson, Provo; one daughter, Ruth Robertson Chi Ids of Orem. Funeral will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. in the Springville 8th-10th-23rd Wards Chapel, 355 E.
