Show ram SHEET Page 3 Orem-Geneva Times Wednesday, May 10, 1989 .. .. . r Orem High tracksters claim crown at BYU Invitational By Cathe Owens Orem's 4x100 meter relay team of Alonzo Mosley, Matt Harding, Dave King and Bryan Rowley notched a 43.56 first-place first-place finish to lead the Tigers to the winner's circle at the BYUFirst Security Bank Invitational Invita-tional track meet last weekend. Greg Kennedy also recorded a top finish in the javelin with a hurl of 189-10. The Tigers went first, fifth, and sixth in that event with Dave James earning fifth with a 179-10 throw, and Matt Ryan sixth at 175-6. Orem ended with 64 points, ahead of last year's winner Timpview, with 51 and Davis with 47. In the girl's competition, Mountain View finished fourth with 55 points behind Layton, 67, Weber, 61, and Bingham, 56. In dual meet action last week, Orem topped Mountain View 75-61 75-61 in boys competition, while Mountain View's girls stretched an 89-43 margin over the Lady Tigers. BYU INVITATIONAL Bryan Rowley gave a strong performance for the Tigers finish- , ing third in the 100 (11.26) and 200 (22.62) meter runs, fourth in the long jump (21-6 14), and anchoring the winning relay team. Dave King, who also ran on the winning relay team, finished third in the long jump at 21-7 12. Orem finished second in the 4x400 relay and fourth in the medley relay. The Mountain View Bruins, who finished in 10th place in the meet, placed in all three relay events finishing third in the 4x100, and fifth in the 4x400 and the medley. The rest of the Bruin scoring came from " f ','J'' j'''" '' '' ' ' Chad Bybee, fourth in the 3200, and John Savage, fifth in the 110 meter hurdles. Nathan Davies placed third for Orem in the 400, and Chris Daniel finished sixth in the 800. In girls competition freshman Becky Perry led the Bruins with top finishes in the hurdle events. Bingham's Jenni Johnston edged Perry in the 100 meter hurdles, but Perry claimed a .02 second lead over Johnston in the 300 to claim first. Becky Bybee added to Mountain Moun-tain View's scoring with third place finishes in the 800 and 3200 meter runs and fourth in the 1600. Orem's girls finished eighth with Julie Sorenson setting a new school record in the 1600 (5:07.28) for a third place in the 1600. Sorenson also finished fourth in the 800. Both Orem and Mountain View placed in the relay events with the Bruins finishing third in the 4x100, fourth in the 4x400, and fifth in the medley. Orem was right behind with a fourth in the 400, fifth in the 1600, and sixth in the medley. Natalie Thompson placed in two events for Mountain View, finishing sixth in the 100 meter run, and fourth in the 200. Kara Streuling from Orem followed at fifth in the 200. Diana Pyne also scored for the Bruins with a fifth-place finish in the 3200. MT. VIEW -OREM DUAL MEET Mountain View's girls , claimed 11 first place finishes out of 16 events to capture the dual meet title last Tuesday, 89-43. Becky Perry led the Bruins with first place finishes in both hurdle events, and a second place in the long jump behind Orem's Tiffani Deadder. Kara Streuling recorded two firsts for Orem in the 200 and 400 meter runs, and a second in the 100. In boys' competition Rowley was the standout with first place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter runs, the long jump, and the 400 meter relay. Chad Bybee finished first for Mountain View in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Mark Fulton placed in four events for the Bruins with a first in the high hurdles, second in the 100 meter run and the long jump, and third in the 200. Region Two track competition will be at West Jordan today and tomorrow. The state meet will be at BYU next weekend, May 19 and 20. Utah Junior High Track and Field Invitational Saturday at Mt. View High Canyon View Junior High School invites all of the junior high schools and junior high school students (7th, 8th, 9th grade) to the Utah Junior High Schools Track and Field Invitational. Invita-tional. It will be held on Saturday, may 13, 1989 at Mountain View High School in Orem. Athletes may compete for their school track team or they may compete on an independent basis. Awards will be given for 1st through 6 th place. Registration for the event will be to 10 a.m. in front of the stadium. There will be a registration registra-tion fee of 50 cents per event. Trials Tri-als for the running events will begin at 10 a.m. Field events will also begin at 10 a.m. There will be a snack bar with food and drinks available during the track meet.
