I've found that sewing with knits is easy and fun. I wanted to put something on each item to show the grandchildren that it was made by Grandma with lots of TLC, so on each little shirt or pair of shorts, I stitch a cute little ladybug. The grandkids love showing off their homemade clothes with a special message from Grandma sewn on each one. Love, Mom Carma Vincent Thanks Mom. We're lucky to have you to love. Birthday Coins for Grandchildren Dear Kristine: We have a piggy bank that we put all of our spare coins into. No pennies, only nickles, dimes and quarters. When one of our grandchildren has a birthday, the get to shake one coin for each year of their age,. , They get So excited as they shake the bank to see which coins will fallout. Grandma SHARE AND SHARE ALIKE Whenever children have something to share, such as candy bar, banana, etc., they usually fight over who gets the biggest piece. The best way to solve this problem is to have whoever cuts the treat be the "Evening Of Dance" Focuses On Creativity Creativity is the focus of Brigham Young University's dance program for children, and its annual Evening of Dance will demonstrate the results of imagination May 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. in the Dance Production Studio, 185 Richards Building. Tickets will be available at the door. One group of students will give images of the insect world using flashlights. Another class is using a large deer rack for balancing, climbing clim-bing and rocking. "It is stunning to see what these students choreograph," said Christine Ollerton, BYU creative dance director. The concert will feature 70 students ranging from age five to 19. They comprise the performing company com-pany of the 350-student dance program. Give each child a zip lock bag or coin purse with dimes in it (however many you wish). Every time there is arguing, yelling or any unacceptable behavior of any kind, Mom takes a dime. When you get to your destination, the kids can spend the times they have left on anything they want. This really encourages good behavior. Remember, you don't like to hear your kids arguing in the back seat, so they probably won't like hearing Mom and Dad arguing in the front seat. KEEP YOUR COOL! "We try to keep a childlike quality quali-ty in the dancing of our children," said Ollerton. "We don't want our students to imitate adults." A unique feature of the classes is that the students are encouraged to help choreograph, compose and create movement for their dances. Many of the dances have been created completely by students, and that includes in-cludes coordinating the music, arranging ar-ranging for costumes and staging the dance as well as designing the choreography. The program's concept evolved from an approach taken by the late famed movement specialist Virginia Tanner, a nationally-known Utah teacher. It encourages self-expression and problem-solving in addition to technique. The program has worked so well that BYU has not advertised" its classes in more than a decade because there is usually a waiting list. "Our students reallv can't fail." said Ollerton.
