Show GCEEIA Pool Gate .Face Lift The community can look forward to a bigger and better pool for fun and excitement. According to SCERA Pool Manager, Dennis Butler, the SCERA Pool is getting a total new face lift to prepare for this year's Summer of Magic Program. New painting, carpeting, a new heating system, and two extensions for outdoor recreation and sunning are underway. The purpose for the extension of the large deck areas is to provide additional programs and recreation for the teenager to enjoy. In addition, the deck area at the shallow part of the pool is also being extended for the benefit of parents being able to watch their children1 while sunbathing in the warm sunshine. A new fence is also under construction to enhance the beauty of SCERA Park. "We want SCERA to continue to be the most outstanding pool in the county," says Butler. Butler said the pool will be ready for. summer activities on June 9th in time to begin swimming classes. Swimming classes are being offered this season. Each session lasts for 11 days. The First Session begins June 9-20th; 2nd Session, June 23 July 3rd; 3rd Session, July 7 - 18th; 4th Session, July 28 - August 8th; and the final Session begins August 11-22nd. 11-22nd. - Enrollment in each session costs (17. Two special sections entitled, "Mommy and Me" and "Red Cross Life Saving" classes are also being offered. They cost $15 and $25 respectively. The admission fee has not changed too drastically within the past 50 years, however, the public is invited during swimming hours from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday Area obituaries Hattie Watts Harriet (Hattie) Leeman Watts, 82, of Orem, died Monday, May 12, 1986 at the Central Utah Convalescent Center in Orem. She was born Aug. 13, 1903, in Winnebago, Minn., a daughter of Wellington and Nettie Phillips Leeman. She married George Whitcomb Watts in 1943 in Winnebago, Minn. He died in 1979. ' She was educated in Winnebago schools. At a young age she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She and her husband moved to Orem in 1943. She was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church and Women Missionary Society. Survivors include three grandsons and two granddaughters Which include: LnnniA Rrimhnll nf Oram And Rdda Jo Paxton of Provo: seven greatgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons and one daughter, Wayne Whitcomb Watts, Lawrence William Watts and Jean Paxton. Services were held Friday in Orem. Burial was at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens. Thomas Bennion Thomas Stephen Bennion, son of Stephen Tobler and Marcia Mangum Bennion, died Thursday, May 15, 1986 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born Thursday May 15 and died of prematurity. Survivors include his parents and a sister Angelyn of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Orem: grandparents, Junius and Bonita Bennion of Orem; and John Mangum and Sandra Mangum of Orem. History of Scera Pool It all began in the early 1930s, when Orem had no swimming pools, so children were swimming in polluted and dangerous canals and ditches. In 1933, the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints sent letters to various stakes requesting that local church units provide recreation for their members. By 1936, construction of a new swimming pool began. The pool was located where the east parking lot of the SCERA Theatre is now. SCERA pool opened in June of that year, and commenced the beginning of recreation and excitement involving the entire family. The pool was later relocated to where it stands today. Makelle Madsen Makelle Madsen, two-month-old daughter of Dennis Ray and Karen Sue Whitmer Madsen of Orem, died Monday, Mon-day, May 19, 1986 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He married Rosala J. Davis, they were later divorced. He married Lucy Allred, they were divorced. He received his education in Spanish Fork schools. He worked for Lerner-Pepper Co., and Provo Ice Plant. He retired in 1974. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Eagles. Survivors include six daughters: Mrs. June Cowgill, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. JoAnne Carter and ShirlDean Moore, both Orem; Mrs. Dale (Joy) Hoppe, Springville; Mrs. Harlene Carter, Provo; Mrs. Hector (Ester Marie) Tovar, Los Angeles, Calif., 30 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren: three brothers and four sisters: Mrs. S. He was preceded in death by a daughter, LaDene Donnell. Services were held Friday in Orem. Burial was in the Orem City Cemetery. Rivervood Appoints Administrator Of Adolescent Services Delbert P. Pearson, M.D., and Psychiatrist had been appointed Medical Administrator of Adolescent Services at USA Riverwood Hospital, a new free-standing Psychiatric Hospital in Provo. Dr. Pearson, who specializes in both Adolescent and Adult Psychiatric Care, has practiced psychiatry in Utah County for 13 years. He was formerly Clinical Director of Child and Adolescent Service Ser-vice at Utah Valley Regional Medical ' Center. He has also served as a psychiatric consultant to youth services ser-vices at Timpanogos Mental Health Center and Provo Canyon School. Serving as President of the Medical Staff at Riverwood Hospital, Dr. Pearson is also a member of the, Utah County Medical Society and the Utah State Medical Association. He earned his M.D. degree at the University of Oregon Medical School after receiving an under-graduate, degree from Brigham Young University. Univer-sity. His internship was served at IDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, and he completed a two year psychiatric, residency and one year child psychiatry fellowship at the University Univer-sity of Utah Medical School. In addition addi-tion he served two years active military duty as Staff Psychiatrist at Ft. Carson, Colorado. , The parents of ten children, Dr. Pearson and his wife, Dixie, reside in Ryan Phillips Ryan D. Yancey Phillips, 11, of Nrrco, Calif., died Tuesday, May 13, 1986 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was the grandson of Dewey and Jean Allen, and a great-grandson of La Verl K.
