Show J BILL HERLIN Bill Herlin Called To Japan Mission Bill Herlin had been called to serve in the Japan Fukuoka Mission. His mission farewell will be Sunday, May 18, 1986 at 1 p.m. in the Orem 11th Ward Chapel, 440 East 800 South, Orem. Friends are invited to attend the service and an open house that afternoon after-noon from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at 526 East 900 South, Orem. Bill enters the Missionary Training Train-ing Center on June 4, 1986. Bill is a graduate of Orem High School and has attended Ricks College Col-lege where he was a member of the football team and a Presidential Scholar. CHRISTOPHER ROLLER Chris Roller Earns Eagle Christopher Roller, son of Roland and Marilyn Roller, received the Eagle Rank of Scouting at a Court of Honor held Wednesday, March 26, 1986 at the Orem South Central Stake. Chris is a sophomore at Mountain View High School where he is a 4.0 student and an Academic All-American. All-American. He is on the debate team and plays the piano and trombone. Chris has received the Faith in God and Gospel in Action awards and has served as Scout Den Chief and in the Deacon's Quorum presidency. For his Eagle project, Chris painted curbs for safety zones for the City of Orem. He is in Troop 773 of the Lakeridge Ward. GREG NELSON Greg Nelson To Serve In Thailand A missionary farewell for Elder Greg Nelson will be held Sunday, May 18 at 9 a.m. in the Orem 26th Ward, 600 North 800 East. Elder Nelson will serve in the Thailand Bangkok Mission and will enter the Missionary Training Center on May 29th. . An open house will be held Sunday Sun-day afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. at the home of his parents, Ron and Joyce Nelson, at 560 North 700 East. Friends and neighbors are invited. Rodger Taylor Completes Combat Course Marine Pvt. Rodger A. Taylor, son of Zola T. Mitchell of 877 West 500 North, Orem, Utah, has completed the Infantry Combat Training Course at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California. During the six week course, Taylor received classroom instruction and participated in field exercises involving infantry tactics; the construction and camouflage of fighting postions; and the use of mines, demolitions and intra-company intra-company communications equipment. A 1985 graduate of Mountain View High School, Orem, Utah, he joined the Marine Corps in October 1985. JOHN Q.ADAMS John Q. Adams Completes Basic Course Army National Guard Private John Q. Adams, son of Lon Q. and Joyce B. Adams of 225 North 600 East, Orem, Utah, has completed basic training at Fork Jackson, S.C. During the training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and Army history and traditions. He is a 1985 graduate of Orem High School. Brian Pettit Completes Basic Training Fort Dix, NJ - Army Reserve Pvt. 1st Class Brian E. Pettit, son of Edwin E. and Jeannene H. Pettit of 432 East 400 South, Orem, has completed com-pleted basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. He is a 1980 graduate of Bellevue West High School, Nebraska. n V 1 EDY ACORD Edy Acord Called To Santiago Edy Acord, daughter of Fletcher F. and Flora Lee Acord, will speak at a missionary farewell on May 18th at 2:30 p.m. in the Orem 33rd Ward, 800 South 50 East. An open house will be held at the family home that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at 366 South 100 East. Sister Acord has been called to serve as a missionary in the Chile Santiago South Mission. She will enter the Missionary Training Center on May 29th. Michael Juori With Security In South Korea Air Force Airman 1st Class Michael J. Juoni, son of Keith P. and Cora A. Juoni of 621 West 640 North, Orem, Utah, has arrived for duty with the 51st Security Police Squadron, South Korea. Juoni, a security specialist, is a 1984 graduate of Mountain View High School, Orem. Weekdays McNaughton Completes Navy Course Navy Seaman Recruit Patrick J. McNaughton, son of Martha J. Cary of 533 N. Montery, Orem, Utah, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego. During McNaughton's eight-week eight-week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy 's 85 basic fields. McNaughton's studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in Physical Education and Hygiene. He joined the Navy in October 1985. SCOTT OWEN SYKES Homecoming Set For. Scott Sykes Homecoming sacrament services honoring Scott Owen Sykes will be held Sunday, May 18 at 1 p.m. in the Orern 19th Ward, 1029 South 8th East. John Hilton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gill Hilton, was named winner of the annual Bausch and Lomb Award last week at Mountain View High School. The Science Award - a handsome bronze medal - is presented each year to winners at more than 8,800 participating schools throughout the United States and Canada. "The Bausch & Lomb Science Award is especially significant," according to Blaine Malquist, science teacher who make the presentation, "because it recognizes the junior student at our school who has attained the highest scholastic standing in science subjects." As winner of the Award, John is eligible for one of several four Bausch & Lomb Science Scholarships at the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. Scholarship winners are selected on merit and stipends, based on need. Surveys indicate that the Award has encouraged more than 30 percent of the winners to follow scientific careers. John has taken classed in AP chemistry, AP U.S. History and introduction to medical occupations. In his senior year he plans to take AP English, calculus, human biology, physics and advanced medical occupations. As a member of the debate squad at Mountain View he qualified in region and state competition. He served as captain of the Mountain View soccer team in his freshman and sophomore years and was selected a member of Senator Orrin Hatch's Senate Youth Committee. John has had many leadership positions in his church and is an Eagle Scout. His plans are to attend Brigham Young University and major in economics or business management.
