FRED ROWLAND MM MU fit (!'' i, i V -1 f JOHN DePALMA Volunteers Inducted Into Hall Of Fame On Wednesday, April 9, the Orem Recreation Department hosted the second annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet. The event is held annually to recognize volunteers and to express thanks from the City. The Orem Recreation Department relies heavily on volunteers to carry ' out the many programs it directly administers. There are an estimated three hundred plus volunteers who serve as coaches, team parents, etc., . in the T-Ball, Coach-Pitch, Flag Football, and Junior Jazz Basketball programs. In addition to programs directly administered by the recreation department, the Orem Youth Baseball Organization, Orem Girls Softball Association, Orem Classic Wrestling, Orem Youth Soccer Association, Youth Sports Incorporated, Orem Swim Team, and Orem Youth Track provide recreational opportunities and services for Orem youth. There are two elements to the volunteer recognition program. The first of these elements is to be nominated for recognition. The second elements is to be voted into the Volunteer Hall of Fame. The Recreation Advisory Commission makes the selection for the Volunteer Hall of Fame. This year, the Commission selected Fred Rowland and Lloyd Evans from the Orem Classic Wrestling program and John DePalma from the Orem Youth Baseball Organization. John DePalma was selected as an inductee for his tireless efforts on behalf of youth baseball over the years. DePalma has been involved with the Orem Youth Baseball Committee for seventeen years and has been instrumental in developing a program that boosts some 1,200 boys today. During lean years of parent involvement on the committee, DePalma carried the responsibility of organizing and administering the program with little help. Today, the Orem Youth Baseball Organization is a vibrant and energetic group due in large part to the efforts of DePalma in the past. Lloyd Evans could very easily be called "Mr. Volunteer" in Orem. He has been a volunteer coach in virtually every youth program offered by the Orem Recreation Department. Over the past six years, Evans has been a coach with Orem Classic Wrestling and most recently has been a "Super Cub" coach. Evans indicated that his motivation for coaching is "I like boys." Evan's dedication to the Orem Classic Wrestling program has not been limited only to coaching, he has also chaired various fund raising events. The final inductee into the Volunteer Hall of Fame is the President of Orem Classic Wrestling, Fred Rowland. The wrestling f Orem-Geneva Times- - Wednesday, May 198fi I. V 1 r Good Tax Saving Sense Keeping accurate financial records is probably one of the best tax saving actions that a taxpayer can take. When the time comes for filing a federal tax return, good records can mean the difference between filing an accurate return or an inaccurate one, the Internal Revenue Service says. Also, good records can help taxpayers take all the deducations and benefits to which they are entitled. Taxpayers are not required to use a specific recordkeeping system. However, receipts, cancelled checks, bills, old returns, and other written documents are essential in proving expenses. Tax records should be kept at least three years after the return is due of filed, or two years after the tax was paid, whichever is later. Real estate records should be kept for as long as they are helpful in determining the cost of original or replacement property.
