In all about $7,000 was raised with airfare contributed by friends, family and members in Columbia. Getting arms isn't all that important to Oscar. He is an artist. He has been painting with his feet for many years and hopes someday to be famous or at least make a living. Oscar paints Christmas cards to sell and sometimes works as long as three months, 12 hours a day, painting one design. His paintings show talent and imagination. Recently Oscar surprised youngsters at Northridge Elementary School with a demonstration. He can wield a pen, brush, magic marker or anything in his toes and make them do what he wants. Oscar finished high school at the age of 18 doing school work with his feet. He hopes for more schooling. "I would like to return here and study art," he says. He also talks f o becoming an engineer line his brother. There are many fine universities in Columbia. At home his family are busy in their own business weaving artesian wall hangings. Oscar helps design them. ' The father and son will return to ; their country and family Saturday. Orem Twirlettes, sponsored by the Orem Fitness Center, recently participated in the Smart Steppers Majorette Pageant held in Kearns, Utah. The girls performed individually in four categories: modeling, interviews, inter-views, basic strut and solo. . The team's 12-member Parade Corp, who placed first for. the past three years in the statewide National Baton Twirling Association competitions competi-tions held at the Fitness Center, demonstrated during the pageant. All of the girls who participated came home with lovely 14-inch trophies. Registration for the Twirlettes Summer Baton Twirling Classes will be on June 17 between 6 and 7 p.m. at the Orem Fitness Center in the lobby upstairs. Those who cannot register at that time may register June 24 at the Fitness Center. Classes will be taught every Tuesday, 4-5 p.m., for ages 4-fi; ages 9-16 from 5-6 p.m. All girls registered in the Summer Classes will par- ticipate in the Provo Freedoms Festival on June 28 and Orem's Fami-, ly City USA.
