For typical household customers, this means an increase of 2.5 percent, or between $1 or $2 per month, depending upon the amount of electricity used. It means roughly $22 million in additional revenue for the company. Technically, the company is asking the commission for an adjustment in the so-called "Energy Balancing Account." This is a special account that keeps track of Utah Power's energy costs, and it includes such things a coal costs, outside purchases of energy, and revenues fpOR SALE 1.65 Acres! Those other utilities, principally in the Southwest states, buy Utah Power's coal-fired electricity to back off on their own oil-fired generation. Whatever margin Utah Power makes on those sales, it passes on directly to Utah customers. However, the company expects that margin to decline 35 percent because oil has become much more competitive with coal. Utah Power also noted that its own fuel costs have increased 5 percent during the past year, generally in line with inflation. The company said that the $4 million it is spending to buy out Emery Mining Corp. is not part of this filing. Emery Mining is the company's former mining contractor that operated Utah Power's Emery County coal mines. Another factor affecting Utah Power's net energy costs is the increase of purchase power costs. These are purchases the company makes from other utilities from time to time, and these costs also have been rising steadily. Since the inception of the Energy Balancing Account in 1980, Utah Power has been able to lower rates five times and has had to increase them only twice. 7.7 DntiGFGGfl: (APft) Four-door front runner.
