John P. Abbott, currently cur-rently Director of the Salt Lake Assistance Payments Office, DSS, will assume his new duties June 1. He replaces Dennis Den-nis Cooper, who resigned to accept a position in Washington, D.C. Abbott's appointment was announced by Norman Nor-man G. Angus, Deputy Director for Public Entitlements, En-titlements, who said that "his experience working with Utah's public assistance assis-tance programs as well as his experience in program pro-gram monitoring and quality control give him an excellent foundation with which to direct operations oper-ations in the Office of Recovery Services. Abbott has been director direc-tor of the Salt Lake Assistance Assis-tance Payments office since August 1978. Prior to that time, be served as Director of the Office of Quality Control. He has worked in the Department of Social Services for 10 years. He is a graduate of Davis High School and Weber State College. He is a member of the American Public Welfare Wel-fare Association and the National Council of State Public Welfare Administrators. Adminis-trators. Abbott has also chaired the Department of Social Services' Welfare Reform Task Force. Abbott resides in Oak-ridge Oak-ridge Village in Davis County with his wife, Sue Ann, and three children.
