Show Orem-Geneva Times- May31,1979 Tiger Soccer Team Wins "Super Bowl" Over Jordan Roger Huber Appointed To Position The Orem HighSchool state 4 - A soccer champions champ-ions concluded theirsea-son theirsea-son with a "Super Bowl game against Jordan (the 3 - A champs) last Wednesday, Wed-nesday, squeaking by with a 3-2 victory in double overtime. It was a tight game all the way with Orem wanting want-ing to avenge a tie game with the Beetdiggers earlier ear-lier in the season. "It was a little anti-climactic anti-climactic coming into the game, observed Coach Garlan Fitzgarrald. His team had played five games in 10 days to win the state championship. To get the team psyched up for "another tough game was a real challenge. chal-lenge. . The boys were very tired and so was I," the coach said, "but we couldn't could-n't withdraw from the challenge. We had everything every-thing tolose and really e nothing to gain from the game - except absolute soccer supremacy for the state." The Tigers started the game sluggishly, allowing allow-ing a goal straight from a long throw - in about 15 minutes into the game. However, Brent Chris-tensen Chris-tensen evened the score just minutes later with a 30 - yard shot that found the corner of the goal. "Jordan is one of the strongest, long - ball kicking teams we've ever played," observed Coach Fitzgarrald. "They don't pass the ball but when it comes to them, they really put it down the field." Orem controlled the second half of play, although al-though the Tigers allowed a goal on a corner kick which was slammed into the net by a head shot of Jordan's center - forward for-ward Meier.
