Show Church President Gives 4th Of July Message President Spencer W. Kimball, world leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has called upon Americans everywhere to reaffirm reaf-firm "that we are aGod-beleiv-ing people." In an Independence Day message, mes-sage, President Kimball said: "As we enter this Bicentennial observance year, may we as a people unitedly say to the world as we do on our coins: 'In God we trust!' "If we really believe that statement, state-ment, and live it to the best of our ability, America will gain in strength and influence. Our nation has a divine destiny, and each of us has a responsibility to help America achieve the greatness that can be hers." President Kimball's message and a musical salute, "America the Beautiful," by the Mormon Youth Symphony and Chorus of 400 young musicians, were highlights high-lights of an NBC radio network program surveying the nation's Fourth of July activities. The text of President Kimball's statement: "In his history of the Plymouth colony, Governor William Bradford Brad-ford described the arrival of th Pilgrim Fathers. He wrote: "Being thus arrived in good harbor, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven, who had brought them from all the perils and miseries thereof." "Off Cape Cod, in the cabin of the ship, the Mayflower Compact was drawn. Its message is about two minutes long, some 250 words. In part it reads: "We ... doe by these presents solemnly and mutually in the presence pre-sence of God, and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politick, poli-tick, for our better ordering and preservation." "That compact governed the colony through their first bitter winter on these shores. During that winter, approximately half the colonists died of hunger and sickness. "Those Pilgrim Fathers in their landing and in the farming of that historic document recognized re-cognized the blessings of their Heavenly Father. They also established es-tablished rule by those ruled a basic cornerstone of freedom with order which has been characteristic of the basic law of this country from its birth. "Thomas Jefferson penned the Declaration of Independence, which was slightly amended by two other committee members, Benjamin Franklin and John A-dams. A-dams. The Declaration was a-dopted a-dopted by Congress on July 4, 1776 in the Statehouse in Philadelphia. Phila-delphia. The signing of the Declaration touched off the ringing ring-ing of bells, bonfires and torchlight torch-light parades. There were 56 signers to the Declaration. In part it reads: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed en-dowed by their Creator with certain cer-tain unalienable rights, that a-mong a-mong these are life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." "Note here again that our founding fathers recognized in the historic document the God of this and all lands, and that he had endowed all men with the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. "It is interesting to recall also the words of an ancient American prophet in giving a father's blessing to one of his sons. The prophet said: ". . . men are, that they might have joy." "Thomas Jefferson, in theDe- claration of Independence, actually ac-tually re-echoed the message of that ancient American prophet, that the pursuit of joy or happiness hap-piness is a basic gift of God to mankind. "One of the reasons America is great today is because the men who formulated our Constitution Con-stitution had vision. They looked ahead to this day, and all A-mericans A-mericans are recipients of their wisdom and foresight. "Of those who drafted theCon-stitution, theCon-stitution, the Lord has said: "I established the Constitution of this land by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose." "Later this month in Utah and other areas of the nation and world we members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will commemorate thean niversary of the arrival in Salt Lake Valley in 1847 of the first company of Mormon Pioneers under un-der President Brigham Young. "They came in ox-drawn wagons to this western willderness for freedom-religious freedom-religious freedomjust as the Pilgrim Fathers had come to these American shores in search of religious freedom. "Our Mormon Pioneers looked upon the Constitution of the United States as a divinely, inspired document. We continue to hold this same reverence for our Constitution. .iflSk w steel pt-ANT liiiiyHuB r wAir 'J eneba July 10, 1075 Senator Urges Action On Utah Gas Pipeline Senator Frank E. (Ted) Moss (D-Utah), irritated at the unexplained un-explained delay of the Federal Power Commission to act on an application by MountainFuelSup-ply MountainFuelSup-ply to construct additional pipeline, pipe-line, wrote a strong letter to the President citing this problem as au example of regulatory a-buse a-buse and shortcomings ... and urged immediate action on the matter. He said that for two years there has been pending before the FPC an application by Mountain Fuel Supply Co. to construct con-struct 33 miles of natural gas pipeline into the populated area of the Wasatch Front in Utah. The line would provide capacity to market 100 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. "There is a growing defi ciency in Mountain Fuel's ability to move the required volume of natural gas into the populous Wasatch Front area. "This problem is of great concern to me because of the unfavorable implications it cuases with reference to the health, welfare, and safety of the people of Utah," he said. The application of Mountain Fuel has been on file for more than two years and last year Senator Moss urged action by the FPC without result. He said he had written again in May of this year requesting their response and, to date, has not received a reply. "This kind of rgulatory ne, gleet in the face of a pending energy crisis is unforgiveable," he said. Senator Moss further explained that the construction season for the mountainous route of the proposed line is limited to the short summer period and, without an immediate decision, Mountain Fuel will be in the position of not being able to constuct the facilities in time for service in the coming heating season. it ft' ,M if L - - Mm Planning to move? be sure to call Phone. 225-6024 The Most famous Bisktt in the World ' LESLIE ANN HILLS Leslie Hills Sets Recital Leslie Ann Hills, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaMar S.
