Show Trane Directs Tennis Play The director of the Scera Tennis Program for the summer sum-mer will be Keith Trane. He will have two excellent instructors in-structors to help Mr. Trane. -Margaret Greenwood has had lots of experience as a player !in Intermountain play and played for B.Y.U. for four years in the number one Singles and ;3oubles. j Sima Nicolic great experience as a player for BYU and a very outstanding instructor. Sema is the assistant tennis coach at B.Y.U. Instruction this year will be Orem Jr. High Instructor Sema Nicolic. , Instruction at Lincoln Jr. High and Orem High - Miss Greenwood Green-wood and Mr. Trane. A program has been set up ;to include all boys from the 4th grade to the. 7th grade and t a)l girls from the 5th grade to ; the 7th grade who would like to learn to play tennis better. ''.' Mr. Trane has given all ele-;.,mentary ele-;.,mentary schools in the Orem area ".an opportunity to participate in , this program. J-.-, Instruction on the courts will , igain be for three group during the summer. A. Beginners, lit year , , B. Intermediate, 2 years or ': more. C. Advanced, 2 years or more. " ' The Summer Program will begin be-gin June 3 to Aug 16. All school courts will be open vto the public. A. 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. X B. 12 noon to dark C. Open all hours Saturday i'and Sundays. Again this year Scera will have teams of boys and girls who vwill play in the little leagues -and jr. leagues. These leagues -are set up by the Central Utah 'Tennis Association which Scera ia a member. ' In 1967 Scera won 1st place :;in the following leagues. Lincoln Girls 1st place little league. , , Lincoln Boys 1st place little league. Orem High Boys 2nd place r. League. Orem High Girls 2nd place Jr. League. Mr. Trane feels that the success suc-cess of the High School and Jr. High's tennis comes from the $cera Program. SCHEDULE FOR AUGUST THURSDAY 1 , FRIDAY 2 Play offs as needed and prepare pre-pare for tournament next week. English Teacher To Attend Summer Institute Larry 0. Christensen was chosen cho-sen to attend an Institute for Advanced Ad-vanced Study in English at Iowa State University June 10-July 26. Mr. Christensen teaches at Orem Junior High School and resides at 31 S. Westwood Drive, Orem. Thirty-four English teachers will attend the Institute which is founded through the National Defense De-fense Education Act and is designed design-ed specifically for teachers of English who supervise student teachers. Each participant will receive a stipend of $75 a week and an allowance al-lowance of $15 a week for each dependent. No tuition will be charged. The Institute at Iowa State is one of 86 founded by the NDEA from more than 200 applicants. Junior Men's Softball Play Starts June 3 League play will begin on June 3, 1968 and end on July 20,' 1968. The City Tournament will begin on July 22, 1968, and end on August 12, 1968. All entries for the City tournament must be turned in to Harold Jacklin on or before the 13 of July, 1968, in writing. Games will start at the scheduled sched-uled starting time unless a previous pre-vious game runs over-tipie. Games will last for 50 minutes or as near as is possible to this. Le. (starting at 6:30 and ending at 7:20 at the end of complete innings. The umpires have the right to determine if there is sufficient suf-ficient time to play additional innings; if a game should have complete innings during the 5 minutes prior to 7:20, 8:20, and 9:20 it will be called 5 minutes not being enough time to complete com-plete a full inning. The umpires will be the official time keeper unless he designates someone else, the coaches should check their watches with the umpire before the game begins. Any team failing to field a team 5 minutes after the scheduled starting time or at such time as the umpire has designated to begin be-gin playing ball that team failing to field a team shall forefeit that game, and the team that is ready to play ball shall be declared de-clared the winner. Coaches must turn in their line-ups to the umpire um-pire before the game begins. No player shall be permitted to play in shorts, cut-offs, or Bermuda shorts, it is the responsibility res-ponsibility of the coaches to enforce en-force this rule. Any team playing play-ing such a player dressed in the above described manner shall immediately forefeit the game. Everything possible will be done to ensure two umpires at every game. Umpires may be asked a question by the coach of a team; but swearing or foul language has no place in Church softball and the Umpire shall have the right to disqualify any team or coach using such language and declare the other team to be the winner.
