Show Thursday, August 9, 2007 SPRINGVILLE HERALD r Comments News people should get facts first! Editor. The recent report of Channel 13 on the repossession repos-session of the memorial stone for the boy who was killed up Springville canyon can-yon in a car wreck last year was very troubling. First, my heart aches for the boy's family; it is hard to lose a child. I watched my sister Linda and her family live through losing their son. I know that removing a stone is a very sensitive subject, but sometimes I Springville Herald 255 E. 400 South Spnngvitte, UT 84663 An ecStion of The Dail Herald a Lee Enterprise bx. What is most distressing to me is how lax TV and some newspaper reporters report-ers are. When Channel 13 first aired the story, it was all one-sided. It made Memorial Me-morial Art Company out to be a real monster. . They aired the other side the next night, but the damage was already done. Many people probably did not see the other side. After the first viewing the owners received many ugly, anonymous phone calls, from here in Springville Spring-ville as well as from all over the United States, 1 i 'fen CJwsiiiii i j rtfilffflllti i ! i 4 wSHsWttMmTinlm i ni i I ' 'i J I , Fins Printing Yii- r-7 copy end fr' c ; - u mere; eVfcjpjaVe P.Vj f-r.r. r - ' ' 'r -i , ; , 4 , V ( F W m kU calling them unprintable names. It is despicable how a reporter re-porter can ruin the reputation repu-tation of a company that has been in business for over 100 years. Linda Anderson, An-derson, the company's co- owner, is a fourth generation genera-tion monument dealer. I know all the facts, because I am Linda's sister, sis-ter, and my husband and I owned the business for over 20 years. Our father, Arvile Child, who started the Memorial Memo-rial Art Company, would turn over in his grave if he knew how just a few minutes min-utes could destroy what it took a lifetime to build. I hope and pray that reporters re-porters will be more careful. care-ful. And get both sides of a story in the future. Beverly Child Johnson Springville Park trees are irreplaceable Editor: Congratulations to the kids for expressing their opposition to the moving of the Springville Fire Station. Sta-tion. Equally important is the preservation of the city park. Those one hundred plus year old trees are irreplaceable! irreplace-able! Our forefathers made the decision 150 years ago that this was the area (spot) for the city park. They planted plant-ed the trees, built a city office building, installed playground equipment, improvements were made through the years - statues added. Now we are to tear it all down to move a fire station sta-tion one block? Even if this were to happen, it would be the wrong location for a fire statioa We need a new satellite station in the west fields and one on the east end of town, preferably on Canyon Can-yon Road were the old cattle cat-tle drive corral was. The young people have shown more foresight and economic sense than the Springville Planning Commission Com-mission or whoever came up with the idea to move the fire station. Max will be greatly missed by many people. Thank you for all the beautiful floral tributes, cards and memories. We live in a great community and a great city and country! coun-try! - Kolene Knight and family City council ignoring citizen input Editor: I'm disappointed in the Springville City Council for their desire to move the fire station to the west side of the park. Have they considered the trees that will have to be killed or the residents that live right across the street? Apparently not! In their haste to please the fire chief, they want to destroy one of the most beautiful spots in Springville. Spring-ville. I played at that park when my grandparents lived close and now my children love to play at "grandma's park." What is wrong with the existing property? Build a new fire station there and have the fire trucks enter onto Center Street. What's with the argument argu-ment about the lost 30 seconds sec-onds getting to the west fields? If you move the station across the street, then you will lose 30 seconds getting get-ting back to the east side!" What a lame excuse to disrupt an entire neighborhood. neighbor-hood. There are many solutions solu-tions available, but since the city council doesn't need the "ignorant" public's pub-lic's input, they will do what is most convenient and ignore the "barking dogs" and destroy a landmark land-mark that has been around longer than they have. - Janice Knudsen " Springville Lessees Citizens who contribute We were in Salt Lake the other day and had the occasion occa-sion to ride TRAX. It is a great way to get downtown without the hassle of traffic and finding a parking place. As we boarded the TRAX train, we were immediately drawn to a handsome, young man with what I would call a "missionary haircut" - clean-cut and someone you would notice. However, what was more noticeable was his appearance from the chin down. " Every inch of his visible body from the chin down was covered with tattoos. Shocking? Yes...and sad. y ... , I wondered how this young man came to the decision that would alter the rest of his life? I wondered what his background was and if he was truly happy? I couldn't help comparing this young man with the 36 young people who are the cast of the Springville Playhouse Play-house production of "Jungle Book." We went to that delightful de-lightful play Monday and recommend it for families and anyone who delights in the achievement of youngsters. Those young people were having a marvelous time putting put-ting on this musical They sang and danced their hearts out. They have been practicing for a few weeks, and it showed. The play was so much fun. Lots of parents were enlisted to make the clever costumes, cos-tumes, and lots more worked on the scenery and other areas of the production. Most important is what these youngsters have learned from being in this production, the confidence they have gained and the good times they wl remember for a long time. I cannot say enough about the Springville Playhouse and the great memories they have brought the members of my famify as we have attended productions, and been part of them at times, for many, many years. The playhouse play-house has been giving to the citizens of this community for 60 years, including a yearly production involving young people! And it has all been done with volunteers. Thanks to all the monkeys, elephants, snake, ladybugs, flowers, trees, vultures, wolves, Shere Kahn, Kaa, Ba-gheera, Ba-gheera, Baloo, King Louie and MowglL You were all terrific! ter-rific! Keep getting involved in things and learning and having hav-ing fun, and you will grow up to be citizens who contribute contrib-ute to our community. 9 Schools to celebrate openings The Nebo Board of Education Edu-cation will celebrate the opening of two elementary schools in Springville with ribbon-cuttings on Monday, Mon-day, Aug. 20.
