" Jl 1: Rodney Burt withdraws from city election Christi C. Babbitt . SPRINGVILLE HERALD Springville City Councilman Rodney L. Burt will not run for re-election this fall. Burt had filed to run for reelection re-election but went to the city offices of-fices on Monday and withdrew his name from the ballot. He cited family health issues as the reason for his decision not to run for a second term on the Springville City Council. "I was kind of looking forward for-ward to serving again, but this is for the best," Burt said. "It's been a pleasure working with the citizens of Springville and the employees of Springville City, seeing their dedication and the desire to do a good job." Burt is currently finishing a four-year term on the city council, with his committee assignments including the city power board and wage and personnel committee. He has also acted as the city representative to the SpringvilleMapleton Senior Citizens. "I do regret to see Rodney leave," said Springville Mayor Gene Mangum. "Rodney is one of the finest men I've ever had the pleasure to work with. ". . "VJT3urt worked as a project manager for W.W. Clyde & Company Compa-ny for 40 years; his career helped him bring valuable knowledge about construction to the city, Mangum said. "With all of the growth that Springville's going through right now, all of that construction knowledge will be hard to replace," Mangum said. Burt's withdrawal leaves seven candidates in the race to fill three city council seats. Those running are Phillip F. Bird (incumbent), (incum-bent), Michele M. Dugdale, Darren A. Hardy, Dean F. Olsen, Sta-cey Sta-cey R. Petersen, J. Niel Strong (incumbent) and Paul Wake. The municipal primary election will be held on Sept. 11 and the general election will be held on Nov. 6. Springville resident Max Knight, 82, had just returned from retrieving his recreational trailer from the Spring Acres Arts Park when he died suddenly sud-denly at his home. As he did for every major concert at the arts park, Knight had volunteered his trailer to serve as a dressing room for the stars of the show; he took the trailer to the park and readied it for use on Friday afternoon and then returned to watch the concert that evening. It was an act typical of his everyday ev-eryday life, which he filled with tireless efforts to serve, build and improve the community he lived in.
