He received Nebo School District's Arts-In-Education Award on February 20, 2007, at the downtown Marriott. Several Utah legislators, as well as community and education leaders were in attendance, to honor the exceptional educators. The awardees were recognized because they are outstanding outstand-ing teachers who use arts education to enhance their classrooms. The last thing Roberts would ever want is for someone to be honoring him. But something must be said about this exceptional excep-tional teacher and art supporter. Spanish Fork Who would believe that a third-grade dissident of drawing, a seventh-grade bass horn player dropout, and a lip syncing choir member could evolve into such a great advocate of the arts. It must have been his mother's insistence that he learn how to fox trot at the Murray School of dance in Los Angeles, California, Cali-fornia, or the unexpected capturing of the leading role in "Arsenic and Old Lace" as a senior in high school, that catapulted his interest in all art forms. Robert's interest and enthusiasm has been far reaching. He has continually continual-ly fought to make sure that the arts took their rightful place in the curriculum at Rees Elementary. Rees has come from having one artist-in-residence a year to being recognized as an "art school". It would have never happened without Roberts' leadership and drive. He serves on numerous committees such as: Utah Dance Educators Organization Orga-nization (UDEO), Dance and th .Child International Interna-tional (DaCI), Statewide Arts Partnership Board (SWAP), and District Arts Resource Team (DART) just to name a few. Roberts' Rob-erts' expertise and knowledge knowl-edge enhance each committee com-mittee and board that he sits on. His openness and honesty have made him an integral if not a necessary advocate and supporter of the arts. Nebo District's Arts Coordinator, Co-ordinator, Julie Christof-ferson Christof-ferson said, "Chris Roberts Rob-erts is a teacher who cares deeply for his students and understands the value of arts education in a child's life. He is tireless in his efforts ef-forts to add value and meaning to students' education edu-cation through dance activities ac-tivities and other arts. Development Director, Teishi Kennedy said, "We are excited to be able to offer of-fer these services to area residents and we hope to make a big impact on lowering low-ering pet euthanasia rates all across Utah County." NMHPU SpayNeuter Director, Di-rector, Kalinda Solbes will manage the clinic and it will be staffed by veterinarian Dr. Virginia Clemans and several veterinary technicians. techni-cians. The clinic plans to perform 6500 spayneuter surgeries in its first year of operation. Among its many programs, pro-grams, NMHPU operates a mobile spayneuter clinic called The Big Fix which travels the state to provide pro-vide spayneuter services in outlying areas. Last year along, The Big Fix performed over 8500 spay neuter surgeries. The mobile mo-bile clinic is very popular among Utah County residents resi-dents and usually fills up at every location.- NMHPU also offers a Free Fix spay neuter program for those who can't afford to have their pets fixed as well as spayneuter services for feral (wild) cats. 'People who already have fixed pets can still support spayneuter efforts by purchasing pur-chasing a No More Homeless Home-less Pets in Utah specialty plate for a $25 yearly tax-deductible tax-deductible donation. And new this year, Utah residents resi-dents can check the box on their state income tax returns to make a financial contribution to statewide spayneuter programs. All funds collected from the license plate and the tax check-off are used to help fund spayneuter programs for Utah residents. facilitate the arts team at Rees Elementary." "Chris has developed a reputation as a leading lead-ing dance educator in the state and is highly sought after as a presenter at lo cal, state and national conferences.
