Pickering said that the Sierra Madre float in 2007 had the theme of "Our wonderful won-derful Wisteria," a flower the city is known for. It had 10,000 hanging orchids or-chids from Thailand that were three to five feet long depicting. They won an award with that float. The Sierra Madre Rose Float Association has been participating in the Rose Parade since l?l7. "They are the smallest builder in the paradehd one of six self-built floats," said Pickering, Pick-ering, "they like the challenge chal-lenge aid fun of creating a new float every year." -v-t 'fcKering indicated that he and his wife, Dorothy, will probably go to California Cali-fornia in mid December to work on the float until parade pa-rade day. The Pickerings have lived in Springville since 1979, and he started designing and building floats in 1969 with his wife and nine children chil-dren helping him throughout through-out the years. He retired from the building part in 1997 and has been designing design-ing since that time. "In the early years we built floats for all the parades pa-rades around the valley and beyond," said Pickering.
