Show 8 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, February 15, 2007 Springville Judge Dean Olsen to retire Martin Conover SPRINGVILLE HERALD Long time city court judge Dean Olsen has announced an-nounced his retirement effective April 1, it was reported in the monthly directors meeting held Tuesday afternoon at city hall. Judge Olsen has been the city judge since the retirement retire-ment of Bill Duncan. He has seen a large increase in cases being brought to city court and has served with distinction during his tenure in office. The community development develop-ment department reports 37 new building permits valued at $7.8 million during dur-ing the month of January. Seventeen new single family fam-ily units, two twin homes, three fourplexes and an eightplex were also reported report-ed for the month, making 41 new dwelling units for the month. The highest valuation for any unit was the eightplex at $653,000. The police department does report that they have received a $125,000 grant from the state to help pay for the equipment. It was also reported that the city receives $ 12,000 per month for 911 surcharge fees to assist in offsetting the cost of running the 911 dispatch center. Once the new equipment is installed Quest will bill the city $2,233 per month for the new service. Public works reports they are putting out several sever-al projects for bid in February Febru-ary which when complete should start to help the water wa-ter pressure problems in the south end of the city. ' They also said that 800 feet of 20-inch ductile iron pipe will be laid while the state is widening the road and intersection for 940 West and 400 South this spring and summer. The department .is planning plan-ning to coordinate the laying lay-ing of water and sewer pipe as work on the road starts. The new recreation director di-rector also reported that he got married January 18. Since then he reports his department is running very smoothly.
