Show 18 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, May 25, 2006 Students compete at track meet Reagan Academy, along with other elementary schools in the SpringvilleMapleton area, had an opportunity to compete against one another at the Hershey Track Meet over a three-day period. All fifth-graders from the area schools competed on April 25, fourth-graders competed on May 2; and third-graders com peted on May 9. The children arrived at Springville High School at 9:15 a.m. each day ready to compete com-pete against one another. The weather for each day was warm and cooperative for the events. The events included 400, 200, 100 and 50-meter dash, long jump and Softball throw. Springville City was ready with volunteers helping out from all the schools, which included in-cluded students from the high school. Elementary principals also volunteered their efforts as the timekeepers. Almost every participant competed in one of these events. Just ask any fourth-grader at Art City Elementary and they can recite all the counties found in our great state. On May 22, they celebrated this knowledge by sharing what they had learned in a parade of counties. From the looks of their projects, each county has many things that make it special, and in turn they all make up our state, Utah! as each school. Overall, the crowd and students came away with a good feeling and felt like they were a part of one big family. The top two places in each event received an opportunity to represent Springville in the Region Hershey Track Meet. Approximately 700 to 800 children chil-dren participated in each grade. Reagan Academy students showed a great effort with the following children placing in their events: 3rd Grade: Zoe Swenson -6th place, 100 meter dash (girls). Christian Singer - 5th place, 400 meter dash (boys). Kai Ruiz - 2nd place, Long Jump (boys). 4th Grade: Liam McKlevey - 5th place, 50 meter me-ter dash (boys). Braedon Leslie - 6th place, 400 meter (boys). Joshua Hair - 3rd place, Long Jump (boys). Dani-ca Dani-ca Nusink - 4th place, Softball Throw (girls). 5th Grade: Tessa Weight -1st place, 100 meter (girls) and 2nd place, 400 meter (girls). Kalin Snapp - 3rd place, 100 meter (boys). Jared Cuthbert -5th place, 100 meter (boys) and 4th place, 200 meter (boys). Jared Clawson - 6th place, 200 meter (boys) and 4th place, Softball Throw (boys). Hillary Hall - 5th place, 400 meter (girls) and 3rd place, Long Jump (girls). Chip Wilson - 6th place, 400 meter (boys). Volunteers needed for Chttdren's Art Festival The annual Children's Art Festival, part of Springville's Art City Days is in need of 100 volunteers. The event will be held on Friday, June 9, at the Springville Museum of Art. Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers will assist with set up and take down, check-in, assisting children at art booths, selling refreshments, refresh-ments, assisting participants and helping the event to run smoothly.
