HIGH NEWS Elections at SJHS Brandon Harris SJHS STAFF WRITER Upcoming sophomore students stu-dents who are now in the ninth grade are signing up to become sophomore class officers of-ficers and sophomore class president. The sophomore class officers will be in charge next year of assemblies, assem-blies, fund-raisers, competitions competi-tions against other classes, and keeping students informed in-formed about what they are doing. The president's responsibilities responsibil-ities are similar; the president presi-dent must watch over the sophomore class officers and make sure everything is going go-ing smoothly. The requirements are the same for both of these offices, of-fices, the students must have a 3.0 GPA (grade point average), aver-age), and the students must have good attendance. The final part of the requirements require-ments is that the student must get signatures from five teachers and fifteen friends showing that these teachers and students recommend recom-mend them for the office. Students have already turned in the requirement form to the Counseling Office Of-fice to see if they are able to be elected. For the different offices, president and officers, offi-cers, only eight will be allowed al-lowed to run tor office out of the many that signed up. Six will be chosen to run for the officers, but only three will be elected. The top two that signed up to be president will run, and . only one will be chosen from the whole sophomore class next year. The candidates have been involved in primary prima-ry elections, and then, after spring break, they will have to fill out a skit sheet. After they have put together togeth-er a skit they will practice. Then on the 27th there will be an assembly and we will all wait for the final day to come when the new sophomore sopho-more president and class officers of-ficers will be elected. Spotlight on Mr Hatfield. Anni Shoemaker and Lauren Smith SJHS STAFF WRITERS ' Mr. Hatfield is our biology teacher here at Springville Jr. High School. He enjoys teaching teach-ing ninth graders and says that it is his favorite age group. He has worked here for fourteen years, and substituted substitut-ed two years previously. He always al-ways wanted to be a teacher, and wanted to influence children's chil-dren's lives. He was born and raised in the SpringvilleMapleton area. He even attended Springville Jr. High himself. He got his associates as-sociates degree at the Utah Valley State College. At Weber We-ber State College, he got his bachelors degree, and his master's mas-ter's at the University of Phoenix. He also spent a little over a year at Brigham Young University. Some hobbies that Mr. Hatfield Hat-field has are camping, fishing, backpacking and traveling. As a retired nurse, Naomi knows the benefits of good health and preventative screenings.
